Thats why DISH has to recoop the costs over two years. I have not seen any sign yet that an existing customer needs to agree to a new 2 year contract.

No it helps cover some of the costs but not all.

Do you think all that equipment (hell just a 2TB 7200 RPM drive) costs $99?

Wait, so this won't trigger a Dish It Up two year contract extension?

Just so every one is aware every time I upgraded I had to commit to a new two year contract--IE paid $299 for the 922 and had to agree to two years with dish.

The two years are up this month that is why Iam looking at Direct tv. Before I jump I do want to see how the current folks like or dislike their new toy come March.

They might not have mentioned it but I would be very surprised if there isn't a 2 year commitment involved with an upgrade.

It's leased equipment. They still own the equipment after you cancel and can resell it to other customers. It doesn't instantly go to zero value when a customer leaves.

They more than make up install costs in $99 fees and higher hardware lease fees and a $4 whole home fee.

I'd rather they do a 2 year contract and waive the initial $99 fee as an option for customers.

$99 is worth it. I know you dont work for free and neither do the installaers who will have to come out to your house, rewire it so that it works with Hopper and joey, upgrade / replace and dishes or switches that need changing out etc.

Money well spent in my book! :D

I never said it isn't worth it. I just feel that everyone who wants it should pay it. New or existing. Fair is fair and this is not.

Sent from my DROIDX using SatelliteGuys

I voted "Still undecided". I want one, but then I really need OTA. Not sure if I should wait for it to be available or pull the trigger ASAP. Decisions, decisions...

Well, it should be $99 plus the tech visit fee. The tech visit fee may be waved in some case but it is normally applied to upgrades.

I wanted 2 Hoppers and 5 Joeys until I figured out about the monthly cost verses my 2 Vips with OTA and multiple TV2 TVs. Gaining Satellite HD on the TV2 TVs when they have PCs, Xboxes, PS2s and Roku streaming HD content to them already is overkill. (maybe I already have overkill?)

I really want to do it but having the second account for the RV isn't going to work me. I will have to wait and see what happens.

The monthly fee structure gives me pause. I find the technology and features attractive, but I have to determine if spending an additional $11 per month is worth it to get my 2nd 722 TV in HD and share the three tuners and content I currently have with the three TVs I currently have...

I voted still waiting to decide only because you can't use an existing VIP receiver with it. (as back-up) Yes, you can get two hoppers but you have to pay for the second. Not going down the 922 road.....

There ain't a chance in haties I'd ever upgrade. 722 does what I want & for less money. The h/j will fade away once people realize its limited capabilities compared to its counterpart.

I'm certain it will follow the current Dish 'N It Up formula of renewing a 24 month commitment.

Yea I agree.I just don't see them not having some kind of contract for a Hopper upgrade.Which in most cases will be fine but if customer has to pay up front plus contract that will deter quite a few.

Waiting to see if Hopper can at least work with one IR and one UHF remote, or better two UHF. If not, sticking.

One thing for sure: If I do upgrade, I'm not going to be an early adopter. I have no desire to be on the bleeding edge with this. I'll let you brave souls have that honor... :)

Well I plan on putting it in my house as soon as I am able to activate it. The rest of you I think are overthinking and overreacting. If it doesn't work for you, then don't get it. We don't need a detailed description on how the Hopper screws you over and will suck. If it does seem like a good fit for you, then get it when the time is right for you. Seems pretty simple to me.

Sometimes I feel like we could all be great Sports analysts. They over analyze that crap out of everything. We should have a SatelliteGuys TV show and we could discuss this stuff all day. Now that's a job I'd love to have.

I'm excited enough that I plan on switching from DirecTV on the first day I can order. I'm tired of our slow HR21s and the new GUI broke the UI on the SD sets slaved to an HD. 2 Hoppers and 2 Joeys. I am hoping that they don't take too long to update the Hoppers to see each other, but even then it is a BIG step forward over the DirecTV solution.

Hopper installation availability?
