Hopper connections to DBS hardware

I currently have a 1000.4 Eastern Arc Dish with a DPP44 Switch.

If I get a Hopper, will have to replace my DPP44 or can I use it as is? I currently have a 722k & 622 each getting served via a single coax from the DPP44. Can I just swap out one of them with the hopper, or will this require a 2nd cable?

The DPP44 switch is actually not needed for either of those setups. You can simply run the wires from that dish directly to the 722k and 622 receivers, or to the node on the Hopper setup.
 
Well, the Dish is on the roof of a three story Townhouse (I don't like climbing up there) but the switch is in my Attic (easy access). The DPP44 predates the 1000.4. When I had the Eastern Arc dish installed, I had the installer hook it up to the DPP44.

So I'd like to just continue to use this existing set up. If the hopper only has one coax feeding it from the DPP4, how does it support three tuners? I know that the DPP tech would support two tuners with a single coax, but does it now support three?

It has to be installed with a 'node'. The node takes 2 feeds from the dish or DPP44 switch and sends them to the Hopper via 1 wire. That's how it gains access to an additional feed. It also provides a backfeed through that same wire to up to 3 Joey units for use in other rooms.
 
Hmmm. Ok, a big thanks on that post about the node. It was the missing piece to the puzzle for me. Now where do I found out more info about this node?

Keep in mind that you can't have the 722k and a Hopper active on the same account.
 
You can just replace the DPP44 with a node and use all the same wiring since your dish has a DPP LNB.

Only if you have no tv2s on the 722 & 622. Dual tuner recievers dont play nice with diplexed OTAs. In fact, I'm hesitant to say it wouldn't cause issue even with tv1. Best option would be bringing OTA on seperate feed from the Dish system at least to the splitter.
 
I believe that will work just fine. Agreed with Aidan8et though on the TV2 thing but I'm pretty sure based on your diagram that you aren't feeding anything back out on those lines.
 
No. Neither the 622 nor the 722k have a TV2 associated with them. I will try rewiring the system tonight with the exception of the Hopper runs to make sure everything else performs as expected.
 
Ok. I re-wired my Sat network the other night to free up that third Coax from the Attic to the utility room for the Hopper. I currently have it wired up as follows and it is working with the 722k & 622.

The hopper will use the 3 & 4th ports on the DPP44. Let me know if everything looks feasible.

Looks to me like you are all set Cyclone. That's exactly how I'd wire it if I was doing an install with that configuration.

Thank you. Its good to have a copy of Visio to make those diagrams. The first Diagram I made, I had Visio zoomed in at 200%. So When I published the jpg, the picture was much smaller than when I had been working on it. This time I made it a proper size. :D

The only drawback that I'm going to experirence is that I had used that third coax for strickly the OTA signal. That allowed me to use a powered signal amp on the OTA with that amp in the attic and the power inserter in the Utility room. Now that the OTA feed is diplexed, I can't use that powered amp. I don't have a power outlet in the attic (at this time :) ). I will have to explore my options because now that that amp is omitted, I have lost many of the Baltimore OTA channels that I once had.
