No...& why IN the world would that make a DVR record for 17+ hours straight???

It could be causing problems like 'xfoneguy" was talking about earlier with a movie being broken up into several segments.

All else fails, Call DISH and get a replacement Hopper sent out.

this is REALLY weird .... last weekend, every single program or movie that I tried to record ended up in multiple segments - up to 15 or so. I've watched programs that recorded in 2 (or maybe on rare occasions, even 3), but 15?? Some were less than a minute - start/end times were the same.
Anyway, all that is to that sometime during the past week, the problem just simply "went away" - recordings are 1 contiguous file. And the "unable to create timer - maximum number reached" error messages have gone away as well. And it's still unusually hot and dry here, so I think I can exclude that as the culprit.
So, at this point, what can I say? The problem seems to have resolved itself - at least for the time being.
