Hopper 3 stuck on starting up screen

I have a Hopper 3 (new again to Dish Network customer) that was installed just over a week ago. On two occasions, I've turned it on in the morning to see it stuck on the "starting up" screen. I found some old posts that reference this issue being resolved by resetting the hopper with the LAN connection unplugged - which does correct the problem. I can plug the LAN cable back in when the Hopper is up again.

I have a few questions:

1. Is this a known issue that will be resolved (or am I in a very small minority)? My network setup has been rock solid for everything else.
2. Is it even worth it to call Dish and report the problem?
3. Why does the receiver reboot anyway? It has only been installed for 8 days - two reboots seems odd.

It autoboots/updates every 72 hours. With that said hatter the first few days if there are issues it's always worth calling into Dish.

I wonder if the problem is to having both the WAN (Internet connection) and the wireless access point connected to the hopper directly. When I look at the network settings on the hopper, it shows 3 different MAC addresses (the 3rd is MOCA) with the same IP Address (from DHCP of course). Does the wireless access point for the wireless joey need to be connected to the hoppper or can I simply connect it to a switch?

That is good information to know. I was a bit concerned about the reboots. That makes me feel much better.

The WJAP (wireless joey access point) must be connected to an Ethernet port on the Hopper3. It sets up its own private wifi network for the wireless Joeys so you cannot plug it in to anything else. Which Ethernet port do you have each plugged into on the H3?

The WJAP is plugged into the bottom ethernet port and the top ethernet port is connected to a switch (that connects to a WAN router). The ethernet ports are set to bridge.

I also have my WJAP plugged into the bottom Ethernet. One difference is I am running wireless for the internet connection due to where my H3 is and it is not feasible to run a hard cable. I am not having an issue with that setup. Maybe something to try for you.

since the two lockups I haven't seen any more issues. Hopefully this was a limited glitch.

I managed to fixed it by doing the following:
1) Unplugged all the External Hard Disk Drives by disconnecting the USB 3.0 hub from the Hopper 3 while leaving the OTA Single tuner connected
2) Disconnected power from the Wireless Wi-Fi router and left it unplugged as I am on Wi-Fi for the Hopper 3 so I don't have a wired network connection
3) Hit the red reset button behind the front door

And all is well as it will reboot within 3 seconds after the Starting up on the main flash screen, not sure if #1 & #2 fixed it or #1 only or #2 only. Thanks for all the hints everyone!
