Hopper 3 on U501, storage hit 100% so it was kept complaining about storage full. I deleted things, restarted via the on-screen menu so the storage is at 70% except it is still failing to record programs as it will complain the storage is full and show 0% recorded events, anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

I didn't do a red button reset yet so will try that followed by the unplugging. I wonder are they complaining about the reserved space on the HD since remember we don't have access to the full 2TB's of the Hard Drive so it may be there are some files that did not get deleted in the System data side.

I've noticed that when I delete items the storage space stays the same until the next day. My guess is that they run a free space routine during the night. But either way, if I'm at 35% full and move stuff to my EHD's, or delete programs it will drop the next day that I look at it.

I'd say wait until tomorrow and see if it goes down.

My storage space actually went down since it is showing 71% except it's not able to record anything as it still thinks it is full, I just did a RBR. I think I was deleting some time up to 1AM PDT today. Before, I remember if I delete when 100% full, it will just start recording correctly immediately.

Disk management on the Hopper 3 seems to be a low priority. Recently I deleted a pile of baseball
games from trash and it took a few days to do cleanup and calculate disc usage.

It wasn't a big deal because I wasn't up against the rail on usage but I can see where someone
can get backed into a corner like this.

I also offload to an EHD and try to keep disc usage low because I've always been fussy about
disc management on my PC.

When you are talking about calculate disc usage, are you talking about the Disc usage % not changing until a few days later? In my case, I rebooted originally using the Restart Hopper in the menu when I had the problem still yesterday but a Red Button Reset yesterday fixed it. I can't offload to an EHD as it got filled up when everyone was away on a trip. Too bad we can't record to EHD instead but in my case, the disc full message popping up every 5 seconds is annoying even when it isn't recording an event when the disc usage is already back at 70% and it's still not recording events as it still thinks it's out of space.

Does it have anything to do with the fact that deletions remain for restoration for two days? Maybe you have to be a bit more careful as approach full.

Can't you empty the trash under options to free the space up without waiting the 2 days?

Never mind, I just saw that you already emptied the trash. That stinks that the receiver can't respond.

Yeah, I was talking about usage % not changing.

This is why I've always been fussy about disc mgmt. on my PC because you never know
what will happen when it hits the limits. For a different user it might be a different problem.

I don't know but maybe you accidentally found a glitch in the software.

Dish doesn't give us many options but here they are:

1. RBR
2, Power cord reset
3. Partial reset from the "Tools" menu
4. Factory default reset from the same menu.
5. Call tech support

I doubt if support has encountered this problem but I guess it's worth a shot.

I assume you did the first two.

If it were me getting nagged with full disc messages I would go straight to the
brute force option 4. This apparently clears the Hopper out and makes it look
like it did when it came out of the box so first I would write down all my timers
in case the remotes also get cleared.

But I'm not you so if you or someone there doesn't want to lose the recordings
try to hopefully find another way.

I believe the partial reset doesn't delete the recordings but don't know what it
actually does. A few people here have done the partial so hopefully they
will chime in on that.

Good luck. Sorry this happened to you.

No, remember I emptied the trash so it is basically gone forever and there is no restore option after you delete from trash. In my case, I would not know it's full since when it was originally full a month ago, deleting without emptying the trash actually allowed the space to be recognize and used again. It was only this time it was doing that. On the H2K, when the storage is full, the box would lag when you try using the remote by up to 30 seconds or more. But in any case, I can't see if it is approaching full or not since I am physically elsewhere in the country when it originally happened and DISH Anywhere does not show the storage space so I wouldn't know until I am physically back home and near the H3.

glynnp:

In my case, the usage % does change since it went from 100% to 99% when I delete 1.5 hour SD recording and then continued going down in real time. A few weeks ago when my disk started hitting 100%, I can delete and it will recognize it and continue recording as I have a event every hour so I can tell when it records but this time, it was displaying the storage full and also the recordings are all 0%. Actually, on the H3, the option I used to reboot was not any of the 5 as under the Tools Menu, there is a Reset Hopper which basically restarts the Hopper which was what I chose that basically just reboots it. I would've thought that would be the same as the Red Button Reset but guess not. I never do the Power cord reset because it is in a dark corner so I would usually need a flashlight to be able to see which plug is the one I want on my Panamax Line Conditioner except I forgot to turn off my flashlight the day before so I have to recharge it before I could use it which is why I did the software based restart instead before doing #1 after I posted here as that is one corner of the room that is narrow because of the things I have in that area so I don't usually go and touch the equipment that often. I would not do #4 since the box is full for a reason, is that many events have duplicates of the same episodes so all I have to do is delete the duplicates but I still want to watch what was recorded first. But the RBR solved the problem, just not sure what the difference is between a RBR and the Reset/Restart the Hopper in the tools menu since one is a software based reboot while the other is like the restart button on a computer while the worse one is the power cord pull as one can electricute themselves since I can't really see what I am pulling on without the flashlight and there are other power cords plugged in next to it, not to mention it will probably cause data loss too.

As far as partial reset, I only have a Reset to Defaults, there is no Partial Reset option for me since I remember reading other threads and it seems lots of people don't have that option too on the H3.

No, there's no user-side interface or interaction with the system partitions. The % used/available display relates to the user's partition, where recordings (and related metadata) are stored.

Yes but the % used is down to 70% and it's still complaining after a menu reboot but not with a RBR so it can complain about anything it wants, just the user has no control over anything other than the user partition.

I have an idea...Record. Watch, delete ..Pretty simple.
Saving shows and events are not or rather appear not to be the intended purpose of the hard drive on a satellite receiver.
Now, some people are tv show hoarders. They cannot stand to delete anything they have recorded.
For them, the EHD is the way to go.
