Hopper 3 shuts down, restarts without warning …

hey sun dude,

that’s an interesting idea “but” by using the Battery Backup unit, you are ignoring the dish mantra about “always plug the receiver directly into the wall” … you said that you use UPS for your modem but what about the h3?

I use Battery Backup on my iMac and modem as well and may look into one for h3 but … wow … h3 has got to be a real-l-l-l-l-y sensitive piece of equipment if its more “Sensitive” than a tv, sound bar, iMac, etc etc etc … if thats the case dish should consider this to be a “known issue”, instead of trying to say otherwise…

Yes, My H3 is plugged into my APC UPS. When I first upgraded it wasn't, but I moved stuff around and now my H3, Router and Modem.

Yes Dish recommends directly unto Wall, as people plug there H3 into cheap power strip that just have to much on them. But if Dish blames power then UPS is how to say no it's that to them.

Mine shuts down every Monday morning at 1am that's the only restart I have seen that is without warning

Maybe you're missing the shut downs since you don't have to be watching or recording for this to happen... (or maybe you're just lucky?)

So, interestingly … this “random restarting” problem of the H3 appeared to go quiet for a couple of weeks from May 26 to June 24 …

I actually thought maybe Dish had issued a software patch or something since I have gone around and around with them on the phone and ‘date’ here … (all to no avail)

Then the problem occurred again last night June 27 … the H3 shut down and restarted itself SEVEN TIMES(!!!) from just 7:30 pm to 9:45 pm … and that's watching live or recordings!!!

This is my second H3 … the first one arrived in December 2016 and was fine until this issue started in April. A Dish tech replaced the first faulty dish and a certain amount of the outside cabling into the house in early May … but the problem persisted with new H3!?!?!?!

I am just amazed at these issues with the H3!!!

This is incredibly poor service on Dish’s part! I can’t be the only person having this issue, I refuse to believe that … and I refuse to believe that its “my house” or any other excuse that Dish comes up with…

One of the times that I was on the phone with dish “help”, I was told his test detected an issue “outside the house” … but he did not specify that nor was that communicated to the tech that visited the house… what could that be?

Could something within the outdoor dish equipment cause the Hopper to continuously shut down and restart so randomly???

I still looking for ideas/fixes/workaround on this, folks …. PLEASE!

This is not a widespread problem. Did you put the unit on a UPS like was suggested earlier in the thread?

But the power supply is not the problem … the flat screen tv and the sound bar are on the same outlet and those are not affected …

Nor was the H3 affected from January through March

Dish Hopper 2 exist?
