Hopper 2 dreaming.....

How about fixing all of the bugs and user unfriendly issues with the current Hopper? That would be my dream Hopper. So when is that big update coming?
Hate to throw the wet rag on everyone's dreaming, but I agree with az99. I would be very happy if I weren't always dealing with problems with recordings that were only partial, then switched to another channel. Making it worse, it is usually with the wife's programs. My expectation is there will be no change whenever this update we've been anticipating since June finally hits my house.

Its all about 4K now. The new encoding scheme is twice as efficient I believe but 4K takes 4 times the bandwidth so the new encoding scheme would still take twice the bandwidth over 1080p. Since Dish isn't truely doing 1080p but 720p then I guess the difference would be more than that unless the 4K would be compressed to where its not really 4K as well.

Any new hardware in the future should have a new encoding scheme to save bandwidth. I don't think all that many channels get added these days so they should concentrate more on increasing the quality of the channels that they currently have as compression is improved and more space becomes available on the satellites / more satellites become available.

"...Since Dish isn't truely doing 1080p but 720p..."

Prove it. This is slander.

Let's call it the new super hopper
1- six instead of the 3
2- Netflix and Amazon prime and misc web
3- watch record everything on a transponder like my prime time
4- two over the air tuners with full guide data for all sub channels
5- voice commands like on Xbox one
6- support for 4k via sat channels once out and over web today
And the big one
7- roku integration for even more web content. Over 1000 web channels. Built into the dish guide

Well not only from a customer stand point for things it would have but you gotta also take into account the way and requirements to install them should be simplified much much better than they already are. If you need two HWS's you gotta have 3 (count them THREE) cables running from the dish/LNB to a central point where the large node is located then one line to each box which is fine but if you would see some homes that have triple lines coming off a roof for example, it isn't a pretty sight. They need to figure out a way to only need 1 line coming from the dish to a smaller node to split between the two HWS's. Not only would it cut down on waste but also cut down on how sh!tty it looks how many problems you would likely have in the future a win win for everyone.

As a customer that has them I'd like to see them a little bit smaller in width, have better airflow than they currently have in them for heat distribution and if you have a EHD hooked up to 1 HWS then the other should be able to read from it like it reads from each other now and vise versa. I would love to stack large EHD's on each one but be able to access them from each other.
