Hopper 1 - Boot Recovery 981 message (12/11/18)

yep, sending a H2000. Will arrive tomorrow.

I may just see about upgrading to a Hopper 3 soon. Now I gotta figure out how to send the replacement back, when they are expecting the old one being sent back.

You are going to send it back in the same box the new one comes in. There should be an address label included with the box.

well, the old hopper 2000 seems to have finally kicked it. Was working fine since the last time I "fixed" it back in January. This morning it had boot recovery 981 message. I tried the same "fix" by removing the tap from the line path to the hopper, but the download never takes. Just sits with no progress. Dish installer is coming out Monday morning to install a Hopper with Sling. I'm hoping it's faster than the old hopper as the UI was getting very slow with each new update.

Anyone else getting a boot recovery warning 981 message on the original hopper

Unfortunately, I just saw this thread. If I had seen it earlier, I would have recommended that you save everything you wanted off your old H2000, return it to Dish, and put the replacement in service. Hindsight 20/20 at this point, sorry.

From my own experience with the dread Error 981 on my ViP 211, unless you're willing to open up the H2000 and look around for a parts failure, it's a lost cause. In my case, it was a puffy electrolytic capacitor, easily replaced, and full function was restored.
