Some of the currently planned conferences...

Wireless Loudspeaker And Audio –– The Future
Presented by Jim Venable, President of the WiSA Association
This will be a two-part presentation covering the WiSA Association. Part one will cover the background, charter, organization, and rationale. While part two part will cover the underlying wireless loudspeaker and audio technology and the procedures of WiSA compliance and testing.

The Not Too Distant Future – 4K Display Technology
Presented by Richard “Rick” Dean, THX, Ltd.
Home theaters have continually taken their cue from cinemas; the move from film-based content to digital, along with 3D technology, were both major shifts in the industry. Home theater is starting to take the lead with the move towards 4K technology. As this technology becomes more prevalent in projectors on the market, how can manufacturers differentiate and ensure a high quality entertainment experience? This session will outline what technologies, testing and quality control processes manufacturers, standards organizations and third-party technology companies can deliver to help differentiate and deliver the best possible home theater experience through future projectors. Topics that will be addressed include:
• The market factors that will contribute to 4K, High Frame Display and 3D adoption in the ProAV and CE markets
• Bridge technologies aiding in 4K adoption
• Standards and certifications for 4K and 3D in the home
• Third-party technologies improving the 4K and 3D user experience
• Technologies that simplify the user experience, preserve artistic intent, yet allow consumers to take advantage of all the cool features in future projector products

Beyond ABX: Scientific Credibility For High End Audio
Presented by David Salz, President of Wireworld Cable Technology
David will discuss recent developments in audio testing. ABX style listening tests are often cited as proving that upgrade cables and amplifiers don’t really improve sound quality, despite the possibility that the test methods were simply inadequate. For decades, those claims have shed a negative light on our industry, suggesting that many HiFi manufacturers are selling snake oil. The big news on this issue is that a major university study, utilizing Wireworld’s newly improved double-blind listening tests, is providing the first scientific proof that superior cables and electronics actually improve sound quality.

The Evolution of Multi-Channel Audio
Presented by Keith Burnett, Vice President Home A/V & Automotive at DTS, Inc.
In this presentation, Keith will discuss the evolution of multi-channel audio, starting with the DTS HD Master Audio, a lossless audio format that makes sound more dynamic, realistic and exact to the original audio master. He’ll also discuss Neo:X™, the world’s first 11.1 surround sound technology, which supports configurations for the next generation of immersive 3D entertainment. Neo:X technology expands sound to a three dimensional plane, creating an immersive, high-definition audio experience in the comfort of your home. Finally, Keith will provide a sneak peak of how DTS continues to innovate audio technologies to deliver consumers high-quality audio experience regardless of the platform and content format.

Projection Screen Solutions
Presented by Joaquin Rivera of Stewart Filmscreen
An exploration of new and exciting applications for projection screens; including how 3D and 4k are changing the dedicated home theater room experience. How to design compelling “living room” systems that blow away your flat-panel TV. And, how projection screens can be used to create the ultimate outdoor living spaces. Stewart Filmscreen, the industry leader in custom screen technologies, will help attendees understand how projection systems can be utilized for almost any room or environment.

And you will see at around 32:20 where I almost got Don killed in St. Thomas. :)

Don was filming and I saw this guy with really long hair and a orange jumpsuit, so I told him to turn around and look... and that is where this guys handler told him that if he did not stop taping him that Don would be going to heaven today.

Sorry Don. :)

Actually that's not exactly what I saw in the telephoto and what was said.

When I spun around on your cue, Scott, I saw what was going down. They were a pick pocket team. They were tapping tourists for jewelry and wallets. The guy in the Orange jump suit was the distraction. But the other guy who got in my face told me to stop video taping him or he was going to meet me in hell, not heaven. I simply and quietly told him to walk away, you're f'ing with an ex Army Ranger you fool! Then later I gave him the I'm watching you sign outside the Table Cloth store and that's when he shot me the bird. And yes, I got a lecture later on from Mary Ann. Anyway, no harm done and I didn't have to go to jail for battery. He was smart not to touch me. I have the whole thing recorded in my archives. Did you see the guy you called the handler do his drop across from the Table Cloth store to a third guy just before he saw me video taping him again? That's when I was sure about the pick pocket team. First time I've seen this in St. Thomas. Lots of this stuff in Haiti and Jamaica though.

BTW- I pulled your act from this version because it was edited for another forum. The link to it is not published except for here.

When I am in other countries I tend to use a pouch around my neck for some money, CCs, and a photo ID. I do not take my wallet out of the country. If they try to pick my pockets they will probably find nothing in them (sometimes I have a pen in my pocket). I usually have my neck wallet hanging down under my arm (under my shirt). So, my elbow can hold it secure against my body.

You are a wise and experienced traveler. I just travel with a much simpler collection of stuff in an old wallet I can afford to give up. I convinced my wife to do the same with a small purse with a shoulder strap. Another location we often travel is Las Vegas Blvd and this has a high number of pickpockets so it isn't just foreign countries we need to be cautious of. I get careful anywhere there is low security and high tourism. Tourists are the easiest targets.
I wonder what you would recommend about carrying a passport off the ship? Many tourists don't do that and rely on their ship pass. I always carry both.

It depends on the country. When I am in the EU and Mexico the ship card and my drivers license is all I take. When I was in the Middle East, South and Central America I took my passport (also carried it in the neck pouch). When I go to Russia in a few months I plan on passport the whole time.

Worst horror story I read was a case of cruise ship passenger couple rented a car in Puerto Vallarta and traveled out of town, got in a car wreck, stranded, missed the ship and then tossed in jail for 2 days in a small Mexican village until they could get US Embassy in Mexico City to clear them. No Passport, just a ship's SeaPass. Since reading that we always carry Passports when off the ship. I do plan on getting one of those Neck pockets, however. I like that idea.

Thanks, I've seen these in many stores, especially those at Airports. Do you find it annoying to wear in hot weather? Why I held off on them but always wanted to ask someone who had one.

I have not had a problem with them in hot weather. But, upper 90s is probably the warmest I have worn it in. I like it under my arm and not on my chest. It kind of hangs looser on the side.
