HSN2 Set For Aug. 1 Dish Network Debut - 2010-06-14 14:30:58 | Multichannel News

Service Will Complement/Counter Programming On Flagship Channel

HSN, which has secured a distribution pact with Dish Network, will launch a second channel this summer.

HSN2, a second 24-hour shopping service supplying a curated array of encore airings of its progenitor's shows, products, brands and personalities, will bow on the No. 2 DBS provider on August 1. Deal terms were not disclosed.

Last summer, HSN bowed a high-definition version of the service.

Officials at the shopping channel said programming at the new channel will be either complementary or counter to what's on the flagship service. HSN2 will also serve as a platform to test different ideas and develop new business opportunities for the company.

"We are excited to launch HSN2 and provide our customers greater access to additional viewing and shopping options," said HSN, Inc. CEO Mindy Grossman in announcing the network. "With different personalities, great brands and products airing simultaneously on each of our channels, customers will enjoy twice the entertainment, inspiration and discoveries."

"Dish Network is pleased to support HSN on the launch of their new channel, and we look forward to offering HSN2 to our customers later this summer," said Jerry Grasmick, vice president of commercial services and sales for Dish Network.

For the first several months, HSN2 will focus on feedback from viewers and customers and respond accordingly.

"HSN is committed to being a leader in transactional innovation and exploring ways to grow and reach our customers through multiple platforms," noted John McDevitt, vice president of advanced services for HSN. "HSN2 offers yet another means for our customers to access the high quality production and engaging shopping experiences they have come to expect of HSN."

It was another one that folded, HSN Spree:

In 1989, HSN purchased a number of low-power TV stations and began operating the service 24 hours a day as Home Shopping SPREE. In 1997, the name was changed again to America's Jewelry Store to reflect a switch to selling exclusively jewelry.

You would think that with the increase of internet shopping that rather than expanding, these home shopping channels would be going away or merging together. I guess that all of the grandmothers or housewives that sit on the couch eating bon bons have not got into the computer age yet.

Geez doesn't satellite companies have enough shopping networks already?? I got them all blocked and wish there was a way of blocking infomercials without blocking the regular programming. It would be nice if they would put all shopping networks in a separate package just for all those grandmas and lonely housewives can order but of course our dish bills would go up to cover the big advertising dollars the dish companies make off them.

Oh joy!! I can't sit still.. :sleeo Ahhh, the good ol' remote. Another channel to be zapped by the lock-out feature. :neener

We still don't have RSN's in full time HD and sometimes not even in part time HD. There are new channels being added that are nothing but infomericals, the Glee channel and the Toot-orial channel specifically come to mind. And oh by the way I noticed that 101 will be HD too and oh ya they were able to put that up so that those of us on 110/119/61.5 could get it!!!! Yet they add another shopping channel and of course it's not in HD because then an entire segment of thier viewership wouldn't be able to receive it....
When will it end
