I have a Dish 520 but only using one TV right now. I have the condo pre-cabled but the Dish install guy told me that I can't use that to connect my tv2 because exsiting cabling is not connected directly but goes to a cable box (Comcast) and they can't touch it.

I tried anyway and found out that I do get the reception (Dish dvr tv2 out -> outlet in living room -> outlet in bedroom -> tv2) but the quality is really bad. My question is, does anyone know how a typical comcast cable box would look like and if I can fix this without getting Comcast involved?

Try to do the following:

Press -> MENU ->6 ->1 ->5 Modulator Setup Change the TV 2 Out to channel 73 or higher and change Mode to Cable then select Done. Change your television in the other room to the channel that you selected. You should have a bit of a better picture now than you had before.

Thanks for the suggestion Stargazer.

I tried that out but can't get better quality. Perhaps something is wrong in the way all those cables get connected at Comcast cable box?

Perhaps there are splitters in the line that need removed. Someone else posted a similar problem to yours and removing the splitters resolved the problem. Also try an antenna amplifier.
