Cubatv , although I also congratulate mike's achivements on successfully locking that bird from NJ (EIRP levels at 48 there) with a very small dish let me reiterate what Iceberg, Anole and others have previously said; Use a 30" or bigger Dish for Hispasat at 30W. If you want to do it as a hobby, then go ahead, try and have fun like the rest of us but if you intend to watch programming regularly then please stick to the 30 or bigger dish recommendation. As you can see on mikes pictures Quality levels where from 35 to 42 as I recall , and if I am not mistaken , that fortec star receiver has 30 as the minimum thereshold therefore just a few rain clouds and your signal is gone. Also keep in mind mike tried and succeed on this during sunset and almost perfect clear skies, not under normal solar activity and weather conditions which increases noise and losses and therefore affects performance. I am just triying to make sure you get all the picture here and make an informed decision.

actually most Fortec receivers the threshold is 40...it may keep a stable picture below that but not for very long ;)

On the Pansat 1500 the threshold is 30 but I've locked programming at 17-18 and kept it stable....for a little bit :)

S & V at 15W

One of the main reasons why there isnt that many Eastern satellites on thelist is because qwert (the guy who updates it) is on the west coast ;)
I can see to 30W but that is a 8 elevation so I cant see past that

If folks have 24/7 channels on Eastern sats and would like to help update thelist with let us know. Easiest way is a Channelmaster list

Iceberg, I just fisnished saning this bird and I was able to get video, here are some pics. of the channels I did locked in, seems to me the best time to scan the Eastern side of the arc is during early morning hrs. or about this time of the evening like I just did ( 8 pm ).
I will "work" on the channel master program over the weekend and if I can figured it out how to transfer all the info from the box I will send it to you.
Regards.

It's always good to see another picture of the big AJAK 180 motor - :up
I see you've got it run over pretty far!

sweet...always nice to see new channels

Otherwise, it might be tedious but PM me the info for each channel
-transponder info
-pids

if you hit "info" on the channel it usually shows the info

I agree with you 100% HD Fan I hope I did not give the impression that in locking in Hispasat on a 500 dish would give best possible viewing in all kinds of weather.

You are correct about the weather and I do align certain satellites when the sun is in back of the dish. Correct, you did outline that I met optimum criteria the day I tried it. Correct, again bigger is better.

I do not have any dish mounted, the 90 cm motorized dish is on a tripod and I carry it in and out of the garage and set it up when I want to watch FTA TV. Since the weather is nice and warm in South Jersey this time of year, I take the 500 Dish out of the garage during the evening and practice aligning the 500 Dish to get certain satellites. I do practice tweaking the small dish for maximum performance.

I’m into FTA since this past April and it is a learning experience for me so I read all of the good information on satellite guys and I practice at improving my skills in dish and satellite alignment. Thanks for your input to CubaTV and I hope he heeds your advice. :up:up

Ice,
The threshold on my Fortec Dynamic receiver varies there are some TV channels that are good down to 27-30 and then some TV channels would pixel-ate at that level.

I do not think you gave that impression since you even mentioned that a bit of rain would kill it, it is just that it appeared to me that the OP was maybe not clear on this.

FEC used impacts this thereshold. For instance a channel like WSTV at 129W uses 1/2 FEC therefore it starts pixilating at a lower quality value (usually 62 on my CS 6000) than most channels that usually use 3/4 FEC (usually 64-65). There is a thread started by Anole about Digital TV Transmitions that points to the Azcar Training Series on the PIT channel @ 97W where they show this on a real life situation.

There was a storm the other day and the first TP to go was the DVB-S2 Uruguayan Mux despite having good signal levels even with an 80 cm Dish . It uses 5/6 FEC so it does not help.

BTW , the new Contribucion Channel on the cuban mux (used mostly to send/receive the brasilian soap opera, news , short reports and so on) yesterday had the audio on Hits , the Spanish Music Videos TV channel. Apparently they were recording the VIP program @ 8 pm (about Paulina Rubio) so expect to see it either in its integrity or a short version in the future on 1 of the music programs on the Cuban tv (I saw a David Foster and friends short version few nights ago that PBS already broadcasted months ago). Previously it had the audio of spanish music videos so I just turn the TV off and enjoyed the free spanish music on my 5.1 speakers, lol. I guess someone at the COI (International Operations Centre) flipped the wrong switch while recording from Hits TV, lol.

Too bad they scramble Multivision (I beleive they use BISS) since it apparently has agreements even with Discovery to get programs for free and as per their tv schedule it truly shows very good documentaries (repeats in 8 hours blocks). If I may suggest the late night comedy Show Match by Marcelo (10 pm ET, 11pm Montevideo) on Tele 12 (DVB-S2 Uruguayan mux) for the spanish speaking forum members. I have become addicted to that show already , lol , very funny indeed. And very nice Uruguayan and Argentinian girls, lol.

I’m surprised that Cubatv has not checked back in on this thread, I was going to offer him some more help in getting setup.

I caught the training program once it was very interesting.

Any one who understand Spanish, will love FTA, so many interesting Spanish channels.

And very nice Uruguayan and Argentinean girls, lol.
