HIC/Broadband Connection Question

I am having 1 hopper/2 joey installation on Monday. Currently the only internet I have is wildblue with a wireless router in the room above my garage. My other internet access is a 4g hot spot on my Droid. The hopper is going to be installed in my basement entertainment area which is on the opposite end of the house from the garage end. At a later time I will be changing to the new DishNet internet which will have a router much closer to the hopper but we aren't going to do that for a few weeks. At that time, I expect the HIC will work. I want to get a temporary connection to the internet. How far will a signal on an HIC reach? If the signal won't reach from the current router location, can I use my phone with some kind of cable when I want internet connectivity until we get the new DishNet installed? I know I have a phone to USB cable and a phone to HDMI cable. Also the phone can send the signal wirelessly but what do I need on the hopper? My installer is a local guy who actually does more hotel type installations and doesn't do that much with internet. He has been doing my satellite installs since the BUD days.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Donna,
The HIC is hardwired with coax back to the node and with cat-5 cable to the router. As far as I know, it is not wifi capable. I've attached a wiring guide to help you get it setup.

You can get a Wi-Fi adapter that works on the Hopper for $25 from dish that should be able to receive a signal from your phone or router if it has Wi-Fi. Your installer might also be able to get it for you for free but I am not completely sure since it does not sound he is directly from dish.

Here is a list that includes other options: http://www.mydish.com/support/setup-broadband

Thanks for your answers. We ended up temporarily using the coax in the room with the router to hook up the HIC. This room won't be permanently connected to the Dish. It will be connected to my antenna in the attic. Temporarily I don't have any TV in that room but it is my sewing room and I don't have any time to sew right now. When we move the internet next month, we will hook back up the TV to the antenna. My sat guy also got a WiFi adapter so I will have that if I want to use my phone hot spot. The hopper and joeys were installed today. Seems to be working well.
