My dad is bugging me to get his satellite system installed.
So he goes to the library and looks at stuff.
One place he found looked very shady, it was like fridge fta or something weird and was full of pictures of scantily clad young ladies. Leave it to my dad to find that one. Lucky for him my mom wasn't there or he'd have a knot or two on his noggin.

He found a place on craigslist that appears to be an ad for a walk in store in Houston, which is very close, an easy drive of about 2 hours.

FTAWORLD - FREE TV FOR LIFE

The name of the store is FTAWORLD but we can't find that they have a website.

What we are interested in is finding a place to walk in and purchase *just the dishes* to save on the enormous shipping. I looked on the sponsor sites and they are going for like $130 or so but the shipping is almost the same amount as the dish!

So we were hoping to save on that part and buy the other stuff from one or more of the sponsors, like the motors, tuners, lnb's, etc...

So does anyone know anything about the above store?

Thank you so much! :)

Do they even carry true FTA dishes?

Out of curiousity I googled something they list in that ad, Ihub. It comes up as a hacker thing.

I'd stay far far away from them. They do have a website (ftaworldcorp.com). Their website only has Dish Network dishes and lnbfs. I wonder why? They sell receivers with dongles and i-hubs. Doesn't sound like true FTA to me.

What size dish are you want to buy? You can get a 90CM shipped for about $95 via SatelliteAV's eBay deal. I believe that is with a universal LNBF as well.

OMG!!

I think you are right! How brazen! Are these people insane? A pirate store in the open that you can walk into? You must be kidding me!

As I also did some googling and browsed their products, they are blatantly selling pirate stuff!

Seriously, this must be a sting operation, no one could be so stupid to do what these people are doing. I'll bet they are drawing the pirates out of the woodwork so they can track them down. Sheesh!

Yes, this is indeed a place to stay far, far away from.

Thank you guys for being so observant!

The ones with the scantily-clothed young ladies were probably also pirate dealers trying to advertise receiving adult PPV for free...

The best places to find true FTA gear locally are usually either VSAT installers or private uplink services. Houston would be the best bet in both cases. I purchased my first Ku dish (the 1 meter Channel Master) and my roof mounts from an uplink facility here in New Orleans (the Satellite Center)...

If all they're selling is nfusiuon then yep they are hacker store.

LOL!!! I never heard that before but it sure seems appropriate for sure. :D

Well MWC comes on one of the local "OTA" channels. I think a few of the FOX channels carry it. Maybe one of the FOX stations in your area has it too?
Or maybe it's that CW Channel, I don't remember.

EDIT: I found the website my dad was telling me about that he found in Canada,
fridgefta.emenace.com The menace part really smacks of something not legit.
My dad is a prime example of how easy it is for people to get taken in by hustlers. Sheesh!

And look at their logo. OMG.. Now tell me that's a legitimate dealer!
(I *love* her hair color though  )

They were the best, weren't they? They made fun of everybody. That's one of the reasons they were so funny.

Nah, just short skirts and leaning over to get something from the fridge. If I had to guess I would say it was an ex hacker site, maybe hoping to keep ad revenue coming in by trying to rebrand itself as legit. Ironic that searching for FTA at the library brought up that site instead of Satelliteguys. :(

Though I think "Oven FTA" might be more representative of the front page. :)

Tv down not to worry we'll show you how to...recieve over 250 channels on your little dish alone

They must be talking about equity going out of business. Right?

I clicked on the files and discussion section expecting to find some dirt on them but they seem to be legitimately trying to go straight. They are supplying factory firmware only and advice to get a bigger dish to people who are asking where their channels have gone. "Supported" files are noticeably absent.

They are selling traxis receivers and other dms international products which are legit as far as I know. The site has a "Hackers Anonymous" support group feel to it but I don't see any reason to avoid them at the moment even though they may have shady origins. It almost looks like someone sold a hacker website to a legitimate reseller who saw potential money in selling bigger dishes to former hackers (which isn't a bad idea).

Also, their logo is really, really funny.
