here we go again, another dispute between Dish & Tegna impending

Has anyone considered maybe the problem is Dish?

Seriously. No other provider I know of had been involved with so many disputes

I heard from one the engineers that the OTA stations Dish uplinks do not go away. Dish still has the signal, but they cannot run them without the new contract. So where Dish says, Tegna removed the station, is not correct.

Just because the channel is still on the uplink doesn't mean that Dish can pass the signal along. Without a legal contract Dish cannot pass that signal along. So, if a channel owner says no deal on a new contract or an extension of the original contract Dish must take that signal down. So, if Tegna said you can't pass my signal because you don't have a contract to do so, Tegna removed the right to pass that signal. It's semantics but I read that as Tegna removed the signal.

Whenever locals where a separate line item they could be dropped.

If locals where part of the package and dish didn’t offer locals in your DMA you would get a $5 or $5.99 credit.

The only time you couldn’t drop locals is if they where included in a package you subscribed to and you had locals available in your area.

What I’m surprised to see is locals priced at $10. If you had Comcast the broadcast Tv fee is $7 or $8.

You think they would price them at $5 and raise the base package $5.

At $10, I’m sure a lot of customers would drop locals, especially considering digital Ota technology as good as it is in some areas.

What all the providers need to do is allow us to drop ESPN, and the regional sports channel. Honestly ESPN ain’t worth watching unless your at a bar, and I only care for the regional sports channel April through September for baseball.

A package with no sports is something Dish could do very well with.

What if you moved to the NY DMA. Is there a credit offered for no regional sports?
I'm done trying to correct your misinformation. With you being so far out of the loop regarding Dish services, I'll just finish by saying that Dish does offer 3 packages without sports. Combine that with customers choosing not to pay for locals, it's no wonder content owners get pissed come contract renewal, hence more disputes.

So that begs the question, how much does DirecTV/Cable increase each year? If they're only increasing $5/month and Dish increases $5/month, than what's the point of all these "hard" stances?

Well, if you look at the broadcast cable fees the Comcast and Charter charge, you can see them going up every year, in addition to the package fees. On average, I do think it is a bit higher with cable, but I haven't done an in-depth analysis to prove it one way or another.

I’m talking about Top200 or Top250 without sports.

As far as dish information I’m usually accurate as when I was a national sales partner I knew the packages and disclosures inside and out. I had to write the scripts

Somebody at Dish must be sleeping, as in Northern Maine Dish is still showing NBC 10 out of Boston instead of WLBZ2. Please fix dish.

WLBZ confirmed the agreement is made, and WLBZ is working on Dish in other parts of Maine, but they must of forgot to flip the switch here

I'm sure cable goes up every year. I just am curious how much it increases (as well as DirecTV) vs. Dish's annual $5 increase.

Well, the first step would be to get them to publish the actual costs, which they seem loathe to do, and, at least with Charter, is inconsistent from location to location, despite what some people want to believe. I did post this a while back though:

Comcast to raise prices

Oh wow I thought they where going to extend it again.

I just sold a lady Directv today because of the HBO fiasco.

She has her Hopper set to record HBO all month long. Finally went to watch her DVR and realized nothing recorded.

She called Dish, said there was nothing they could do so she called me looking to get spectrum.

Spectrum was not available so we switched her to Directv.

I’m so glad I don’t sell dish anymore and have to deal with this.

This is getting old. At least they can’t take away the OTA Signal.
So you sold her inferior equipment to the Hopper and will expect her to be happy? How much did this cost her?
