I became a dish retailer 2 months ago and Im pulling my hair out. I have been in the 12 volt industry for 13 years and have an assoc. in Electrical Engineering. I cant for the life of me figure out in the sky where the signal is coming from. I purchased a $225.00 compass/inlinometer and i still get stuck. Just today I tried to reinstall my oen dish, due to blooming tree issyes and could onlu get sat 110. I got 103 signal strength on 110 and couldnt find 119 at all. I guess im just wondering if you get a good signal on one sat what direction would you move for the other sat. I have tried to get help from my distrbutor(all systems) but that was no help.

there's at least a couple of things

If you're using a dish 500, first off make sure you're setting the skew. And make sure you get your mast/pole as close to level as possible (The best way is to use 6 bolts, starting with the middle 2). Are you using the numbers on your compass or just the directions? Make sure you're looking exactly at the numbers.
***And don't go by the numbers for the Dish 500, go by the numbers for the Dish 300 for both 110 & 119, and make sure the whole LOS is open. That will ensure perfect signal.
Ex: My setting's here for the Dish 500 are Azimuth 234, elevation 34.... but if you check out the Dish 300, you see that 119 comes in at 231 - 31, and 110 at 221 - 38...hmmm. So if you just open your LOS from 234 - 34, with trees up to 34 degrees, and trees just on the right side of 234, you're not gonna see the 119.
hope that makes everything at least as clear as mud.

here the az is 250 and im on elev is 24 and im on problem is in New England 24 is just over the tree line, or through it. i havr an opening(not very wide) and i get 110 almost full but 0 119. i had the opossite before the trees bloomed. does the signal come frome thr right or left of the direction the dish is physicaly pointing?

If you are having trouble, try this: Use a legacy or DP Dual(when using the DP Dual, hook it up and do a check switch so that the receiver recognizes it first). Then use it on the 119 side. Tune it in. This will help keep from tuning the sats in on the wrong side of the Twin.

Yep.
And the signal comes from the right of where the dish looks like it's pointed for a skew over 90.

The 250 - 24, is that for the Dish 500 pointing?
Where do 119 and 110 come from? My guess is 110 = 245az. and 119 255az. But what's your elevation?

Another easy way to make sure you hit the right satellites with the correct side of the dish is make sure you start your mast level, and not move your elevation more than a degree.
Also, the left side of a twin say's 119, and the right side say's 110, but the satellite's hit the reflector on the opposite side of what the LNB say's

Right - the dish is a mirror. So, obviously, with 119 on the east side, 119 is farther west than 110.

One common problem with aiming is being 9 degrees off. You say you're getting 110 - so block the 110 side with tinfoil and if the signal goes away, you're aimed reasonably well, assuming the mast is plumb and the skew is set right.

The dish is also an offset fed dish, this means that thje signal comes in about 22 degrees higher than where the dish looks like it is pointed. If it looks clear straight out from the dish look higher and see if you have leaves hanging over that clearing.

You really need to talk to your distributer representative about providing training, you will never survive without their support.
