Help with Coolsat 5k and motorized setup

More newbie questions.
I ran into some trouble getting my motorized setup locking on across the arc, so I wanted to review everything in a logical way to make sure I've got it all set up correctly. I've got a Coolsat 5000 hooked up to a Sadoun Powertech DG280B motor on a perfectly plumb mast. The motor is hooked up to a 4x1 DiSEqC switch and input 1 goes to a Universal Linear Dual LNB and I'm only using one of the outputs on the LNB. The hookup goes
LNB ->Switch -> Motor -> Receiver.

I triple checked my latitude settings on the motor. On the Coolsat, I've got the LNB power ON and the type set to UNIVERSAL. The line that says 22KHz says AUTO. In the motorized menu, I have the latitude and longitude settings right (I triple checked those also). Does all that sound right? And what should the lines about the ports be on? Also, should I have two cables coming out of the switch hooked to both spots on the LNB?

If I've left out anything that would help, let me know.

Have you tried scanning? What sat are you pointed at? I would try blind scanning and see what channels come up, if any, and that will give you an idea of what sat you are on. Post what channels you get, and someone will tell you which sat you are pointed at.

Sorry I wasn't very clear.
I got a reasonably good signal on my true south satellite and I know I'm on it. What I wanted to be sure of before moving ahead is: are my receiver settings right (I'm not sure what to put all the Coolsat menus on)? And should I be using both outputs on the LNB instead of just the one. I'm pretty sure the switch is in the right place in the connection chain but not sure.

You only need one cable coming from the lnb, and if your lnb is a universal, then yes, you select the "universal" setting for lnb, and it will default to "auto" on the 22mhz switch setting....you can't change that setting. It sounded like you have the correct settings.

Hi BadPistacio,

I think you have all your settings in the Coolsat menu correct. However, I would remove the 4X1 DiSEqC switch entirely and don't worry about setting any switch settings in the menu for this.

At this stage, you have essentially no purpose or utility for the switch, so don't even include it right now. Also, I am not certain how well the Universal LNBFs play with the DiSEqC 4x1 switches, so you might be introducing problems by having it installed.

I am not yet too familiar with the Universal LNBFs and so I don't have first hand knowledge of what switches work the best with them. But, since you really don't require the switch at this point of the game, why bargain with it for troubles?

Later on, when you get everything setup well with your motor and dish, then you can move on to specialized settups using switches, if necessary. That will also give you ample time to research the best avenue to follow in such an endeavor.

I think that it is for the older Dish Dual LNBF. I have a Coolsat 6k with a motor and have all of the switches off.

The LEGACY SW option enables you to utilize a specific variety of multi-dish switches (or MULTI-SWITCHes) mfg'd for the older DishNetwork and DirecTV systems.

They are generally referred to as a Legacy Switch because they were designed to function with the Legacy DN LNBFs and receivers. DN now uses mostly the DP (Dish Pro) and DPP (Dish Pro PLUS) technology and LNBFs/receivers which utilizes bandstacking instead of voltage switching.

Since the older Legacy systems utilized voltage switching to change the polarity of the signal within the LNBF, these switches that were used for those DN applications can also be used for FTA uses, with the proper support.

These switches are usually of the SW21 or SW42 variety, but also includes the SW44 and the SW64. The SW44 and SW64 types are not, that I know of, supported in any FTA receiver. However, the SW21 and SW42 switches sometimes are and they are really good, hardy switches.

Regarding the DiSEqC setting in your menu (pertaining to the switch) and what setting should be selected, it really does not matter. If you don't have a switch connected, there isn't "anybody" out there on the cable to listen to those specific DiSEqC switch commands, so they will simply be ignored. However, I prefer to set it to OFF as to not confuse myself or others.
