Hey guys !
very nice website :)
please help me I got a headache from reading all over the net :X

I live in Canada Toronto

I want to get chanels from Atlantic Bird 3 (5W) (French channels)
and Nile 101 (7W) (multicultural chans)

I checked lyngsat.com and it seems that Toronto (not far from buffalo) is within the corage of both satellites.
Also double checked on Eutelsat and other websites.
http://www.eutelsat.com/satellites/5wab3.html#
(clic on dowlink under coverage)

cheked some Lnb's to be compatible like this one:
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Fortec-Star/LNBF/FSKU-v04.htm
and dishes like this one:
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Fortec-Star/Dishes/FC100CM.htm

YET not one website is mentioning anything about reception of these satellites in north america.
all websites speak about 60w to 135w
did I miss something ?
I dont want to invest and not to get it to work :p

My other problem is I need a receiver that can convert secam to NTSC since Atlantic bird 3 chans are secam :(
a converter is too expensive, I heard some echostar receivers have built in conversion circuity.(whatever that word is lol ).

I also want other satellites like Dish network 121w (EchoStar 9)(im gona suscribe to one package from dish),

can I get 1 dish for all the different satellites ( I guess not since 5-7W is too far from 121w, and azymuth, elevation and polarity are not same ?!)
like this one:
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/WF/T55P.htm
c-band wouldnt heard if not too complicated:)
I just dont want to instal 3 different dishes :)
I want a receiver that does it all: mpeg2,dvb,dss,ac3...

phew thanks in advance for ur help guys :)

The stuff at 5W is analog, so you would need an analog receiver.

Even if it is possible (I think you'd be outside the spotbeam), the elevation is at 5 for Toronto...dang near at the ground :)

The stuff at 7W is aimed towards Egypt. So the spotbeam wouldn't work

Yes, you are more or less stuck with the same satellites range as you mentioned above, still lots to see but of course not the exact satellites you are after, don't give up I am sure you will find interesting programming with a KU or even better with a C and KU set up. Most people here use a motor on the dish and it sane you from having multiple dish set up, but the down side is you can only see one satellite at a time.

10x guys for ur fast response.

I really want the atlantic bird 3 badly, no other sat offers same chans.

Im pretty sure the beam covers my area

(coverage/downlink/pic on far right)

"With its mix of Ku- and C-band frequencies", and iceberg said i need an analog receiver,
so does it mean c-band is analog ?

But anyway, I dont see why it wouldnt work, since I can get ku or c-band and spot beam is ok.
same thing with Nilesat 101, according to lyngsat, beam covers my area, I dont understand u Iceberg when u say its pointing to egypt ?!

The best, easiest way to learn whether a given satellite is visible to a large city such as Toronto is to call the local satellite equipment dealers. They should have the experience to know whether something's possible or not.

most dealers probably wouldn't know what satellites can be picked up where...If you can find one that deals with KU or C-Band.

I have one in Minneapolis..PSB :)

Easiest thing to do is ask us....with enough of us here, we should be able to answer correctly :)

EXACLTY this is a SATELLITE forum where better to ask than the dealers, moderators and members here thats why we are all here to help........isn't it ? Well it is for most people here!

Sorry, but I found a local guy with a huge lot of used C band dishes, and he could rattle off pointing angles from the top of his head. I daresay he's better at knowing exactly what footprints hit his shop that any of us staring at coverage maps.

Of course, when I talk about a satellite equipment dealer, I'm talking about C/Ku stuff, not the zillion Dish/DirecTV folks. Most of those DBS folks wouldn't know the first thing about FTA.

I just wanna make sure its impossible before abandonning :)

proof of beam coverage in eastern north america for atlantic bird 3 (5w):
if the beam was the only problem than i guess its fixed I can receive that bird ? :p

(clic far right pic)
compare it with
http://www.sitesatlas.com/Maps/Maps/NAmer.htm
look at the meridian that goes from Miami FL to hudsonbay canada, toronto is on the same meridian, looks to me Toronto is IN !

other info:

On Lyngsat, the beam says "super"..when you click on it and pick the Super beam you get this
