:rant:I need HELP!!! I have a problem with a message on one of my TVs using the HR20-700 HD DVR. I have had no previous problems. We have 6 receivers (DVRs), but this is the only one giving me this issue. I had this particular TV on most of the day with no issues. I went out this evening and turned off the TV and surround sound, but left the DVR on as usual. Upon returning home, all the power in the area had been lost due to a thunderstorm. Once the power was restored, I turned on the TV. Eventually, after getting no picture, I got a message on the screen that said "Tuner, Satellite In 1 & 2, has been removed". However, the receiver is completely hooked up. I tried all the other TVs in the house, and they are all working fine.

I reset the DVR using the red reset button. During the reset check, it went through Step 1 as normal. When it got to Step 2, it just stayed at 0% completion and wouldn't go any further. I then reset the DVR by unplugging it and waiting 30 seconds, then going through that whole thing again... same result. When I wait long enough, it will give me that message about the tuner being removed. I went outside to check the connections at the dish, but they are all fine and secure. I believe the multiswitch is in the attic, and I would have no clue as to how to find or deal with it. I have a slimline dish type (5 LNB) with dual tuner and using a multiswitch, for the record.

When I hit the Guide button, it tries to retrieve the advanced program guide, but it never gets past 0%. I can access and watch the shows recorded on the DVR, but I cannot watch regular programming. When I choose the Menu, it only gives me 2 options... Signal Strength (which when chosen says no satellite info available) and Resume Satellite Setup. When I choose the satellite setup option, it takes me to the page to verify the details... what sort of dish, multiswitch, etc. But I get a message at the bottom left of the page that says "B-Band Converters required". However, they are already there and connected properly. When I continue with the setup, it tries to verify info and resume, but it gets stuck and goes no further. Eventually I get the "tuner removed" message again.

I have disconnected and reconnected every cable, HDMI, phone cord, etc. on the back of that DVR. I even switched the B-band converters to the opposite Satellite In connections and back... no change. I removed the B-band converters altogether and connected the cables directly to the back of the DVR... no change.

Directv said that they would have a tech out early next week... NEXT WEEK! This is Friday (Thursday night when I called them) heading into the July 4th weekend, and I need this fixed way before next week! BTW, everything is plugged into a Monster Surge Protector. Can anyone help, or does anyone have any suggestions? PLEASE???!!

Thanks in advance!

Hello jenna4now2,

Welcome to the site!

Sounds like either bad DVR or multi-switch.

Since you don't want to try to locate the switch, there's a couple of quick things to try. I'm sure someone will come along and offer some more technical advice but this may get you started if you haven't already tried it on your own.

Try unplugging DVR 5 minutes or longer.

If still getting same message, try switching DVR's temporarily taking into consideration that either that room will not give you live TV or that DVR will not give you live TV.

If you cannot get another DVR to work in that room, the switch or wires coming out the switch at that location are the problem. If you have a tech savvy guest visiting, get he or she to arrive earlier to help.

Hopefully you can find a temporary working solution that gets you through the Holiday weekend. Have a safe and happy 4th of July! Keep this thread updated with findings and requests for further help and you'll get it. Good Luck!

Hello again jenna4now2,

Sorry you're still having problems. I think if you can provide more feedback, someone may be able to help you. Two questions you should answer if you're still asking for help:

1) Have you tried connecting your HR20-700 to inputs in another room (you will need the B Band Converters and the comment you noted about them is just a helpful setup reminder to install them at tuner inputs and is not an indication that they're defective or missing). What happened when you connected in another room?

2) Run System test and list any and all failures. It should give a signal strength failure if that is your problem. Any other problem listed could give an indication if the unit is defective or software is corrupted.

Note: the answers you give will help the next person to advise you properly.

Sounds to me like the tuners in the box are fried from the storm, youll know immediately by placing the HR20 in a room you know has no problems as you stated everythign else in the house is fine. Also try to move a good box into that location and see if the wiring is ok. Its possible the box and the wire is now shot from the storm, if the bad box does not work in a good location, box is shot, if a good box doesnt work in origional location of the hr20-700 then the wires up to the box are shot from the point of the switch or dish. Sounds to me like you realy need a tech repair :(
