The halfmoon gear is stuck. Is that normal or should it turn freely? I believe this is where the problem is. This is what is creating the resistance and overloading the motor. Unless it is supposed to stay in that position. I will try to hit it out with a rubber hammer. I do not think many people out there has taken this apart so I doubt anyone can help me. The only pictures I have seen posted here are by Magic Static. If you are around maybe you can throw me another hint. Gotta be careful because these things are difficult to find so I do not want to mess it up.

Yes it should move freely without the worm gear engaged.
There will be some kind of nylon bushing material lining the tube that shaft rides in. You can see the one I have in the picture to the left of the shaft/half moon gear. Keep that safe it would be hard to replace. I also used some penetrating oil to help break it free.
It depends on how badly it's stuck, but in any sense, I'd mark everything so it's put back together exactly as it came apart. Some really good penetrating oil will help immensely. I wouldn't rule out applying a little heat to certain parts, but not the motor. Could do more damage than good there. Overall, it doesn't look like it's in bad shape at all. Looking at the pictures, I couldn't see a lot of wear on the worm gear or the half moon gear. Looks like a good find.
Thank you wvman. I will try the penetrating oil and the hammer. The chain, worm gear and half moon were all filthy with old harden grease. Took some time to get it all clean. The half moon internals should be similar stuck with old grease.
I am taking pictures as I dissassemble to make sure I assemble correctly.

I did see the nylon bushing on your picture. I was actually afraid to break it as I force it out. The penetrating oil should help like you say.
Pictures always help. Where one slides inside another, I'd score a line around the part where it goes together to mark the insertion distance. You're on the right track by not disassembling it willy-nilly. I've done that a couple times when I was in a hurry and regretted it each time. You'll get it back together. Steady as she goes.

I hit it today with everything I had and could not get it. On my way to a mechanic to see if they could bang it out
The mechanic could not help but I saw a pin on top? Do I need to remove it to be able to take the shaft out?
there isn't a pin I know of. It looks like you have two holes for a grease zerk. One is drilled through the nylon bushing. My first AJAK was abused before I got it and it showed the grease zerk had been installed as an after thought. You could see on the shaft where the drill bit hit it.
You might stick that whole thing in a 5 gal bucket of diesel fuel and let it soak for a few days or a week and then give it a whack.

And I would try to get the shaft to just rotate back and forth some before trying to hammer it straight out.
Got me 2 gallons of PB and will leave it soaking. In the meantime will start painting the base and mounts.
