Hi guys,

I'll be the first one here to admit that I have no idea if I'm even posting in the right forum. However, that being said, I'm having a problem with a RCA DVR-120 TIVO unit.

I woke up one morning to a frozen picture (of Tom Cruse as Maverick) on my TV. I tried accessing the menu with the remote to reset the unit and to my suprise, none of the buttons worked! SO, I tried to turn the unit off with the power button and...... wait for it....... that didn't work either! So I unplugged the unit, let it sit for 30 seconds, then plugged it back in. When I ddi this the unit gave me a "Welcome, Powering Up" screen then just hung there for 20-30 minutes untill I unplugged it again. Now I can't get to do anything but give me that nice message.

Does anybody know any tech. tips for fixing this problem or is the answer simply, "Buy a new DVR!" The unit is only two years old so I don't want to toss it. And I also really didn't want to lease a refurb unit from DirecTV and start a two year contract as I'm currently not on ANY contract.

Please HELP! I'm pulling what little hair I have left out. :D

Thanks,
Michael

Your Wife probably had the Tom Cruise Top Gun picture froze to your TV for her benifit :D
You have tried most of what I would suggest.

Do you plan on leaving D* in the next few years ?
Why do you think you would get a Re Furbed unit ?

The 2 year contract does not bother me, I would perfer a 1 year, but it's not my call.
If D* for some reason teated me badly enough to decide to leave, I would bite the bullet and pay the canncellation fee, with leased equipment, sometimes all you have to do is send the stuff back, other times you pay the 5 dollar p/m fee that would cover the remaining months of your contract. So if you had 10 months remaining when you decided to leave, return the units and pay them 5p/m x 10 months = $50

Did you happen to leave the thing unplugged over nght at all, you could give that a try ... Does the thing have a hard reboot on it ?

Have you tried calling D* and see what they can do to fix it, possibly.
You also may find that they might offer you the new stuff close to nothing, so the 2 year commitment would balance out.

Just some options.

Does DISH not require a year of so contract ?
