Help Please...hr20-700

Hello...i was looking info on the HR2O DVR...and couldn’t come accros any message that could answer my questions. Maybe u guys could help.

I just purchase the receiver from Best Buy and I should be getting it any time now. I’m not sure if i will need any special parts to install the receiver or is it just like any regular receiver. I currently have the H20 model and using a 3 LNB dish.

I'm not sure if i could still use the 3 LNB with the HR20 and get all my local channels including my HD channels and not lose any features. Or would i have to upgrade my dish to a 5 LNB??? Or need to buy anything else.

you will not need any special parts, just two lines run to the HR20 from the dish. Also you will not get your Locals in HD if you have a 3lnb dish, those only come with the 5lnb unless your from Los angeles or New York, hope you enjoy this reciever as its a decent one when it works.

Why 2 lines...so i have to get back up on the ruff and run another wire from the dish? And by the way i do live in L.A...were its all always summer!

2 lines, one for each of the 2 tuners in the DVR.

No, you can just live with one tuner and half a DVR, or you can get someone to run it for you.

Are his locals already in MPEG4 ?
Does he need the 5 LNB dish to get them seeing he's in LA ?

No They are Mpeg2 and he dosent need the 5lnb right now, but that will change very very soon! as more HD channels come on, and maybe his RSN he will want to upgrade! enjoy!:

Can BestBuy offer an up-grade? I would have thought you would have been better going with DirecTV to upgrade your receiver, dish and wiring. I would call D* and get a price for everything needed and then compare. If BestBuy can not do it or is higher than D*, return the HR20 and have it installed by D*

From the way I read it, D* told him to buy it at BB... Presumably he would have the re imbersment already worked out with D*.

I don't see it in this Post, but I didn't know they would tell you to go to BestBuy?
It could be a better deal but most deals I have had (many with both D* & E* and even VOOM) have always been better using a direct purchase. With leased receivers maybe this has all changed. Does BestBuy do installs and offer rebates from D*? I really would never have considered them to up-grade but maybe for a new install deal.

I have heard of Many people getting credits/money back from Directv if they buy it at best buy, I think its easier for them to give you 3 months of free service then work a new order for equipment.

I am not sure about Best Buy, but when I purchased an upgrade to an HR10-250 last June from Circuit City, DirecTV sent an installer to mount the new 5LNB dish and to run the second cable.

Yeah...D* said if i didnt want to be placed in the waiting list, just to go to a local BB and purchase the receiver there...which i did, but i just decided to purchase it online since my local BB didnt have it in stock...so i should be receiving my receiver 11/23 Wed.

So i will need to updrade my Dish to a 5 LNB??? SOON???

Cause of right now...i get my ALL local HD ch's with THE 3LNB and the regular HD programming (HBO, SHOW, ESPN, ESPN2, DISCOVERY, TNT, ETC.)

I did just so I wouldnt have to deal with it later and I can just sit back and enjoy new channels when they come on...but its ultimatley up o you.

i been looking at ebay and the 5 LNB runs for about $60 NEW...
So i just might get it then.

Probably sometime in the springtime after the new sat is up and operational.

O.k. guys, i got my HR20-700 today...here at work...lol…so how i cant wait to get off work and see what this other wire (line) I have to run is all about!!!

Hopefully it's just as EASY as you guys said…..just hooking it up in a empty slot that the dish has...I hope that's all I HAVE TO DO!!!
