Hey everyone - new member here...but been lurking for quite some time. Need some help/guidance - used search function and didn't see specific answer. Apologize in advance if I may have overlooked it.

So here's my situation...my 2 year contract with DIRECTV expired yesterday. My bill has literally doubled in cost and it is now time to re-negotiate. Before I call them I want to make sure I am clear on exactly what I want to ask them for to retain me.

My current set up is an HR34 and three C31's. I have had a few issues over the past two years. The lag on the C31 when changing channels, etc. is very annoying (especially annoying to my wife whom I MUST keep happy!). As such, I was thinking about replacing the C31 that we watch the most TV on with either a H24 or H25. Was also considering a HR24 so we don't lose the ability to pause live TV. Looking for suggestions regarding which would be best to go with. Want the one that will most seamlessly integrate with the existing HR34.

I have also had an issue with my HR34 for some time now when recording shows on DVR. When recording, the picture will become pixelated and skip - and in some cases freeze up completely. This does not happen every time - it is quite random, but when it does, it obviously is incredibly frustrating. I talked to DIRECTV about it many months ago and there suggestion was to just replace the box. I'd now love to replace it with an HR44, but my understanding is that it is a crap shoot regarding replacements - might get a 34 or might get a 44. Is there literally no way to ensure that you get a 44?

In both cases above, I am going to try to get them to throw the new bo:mad:es) in for free to retain me. Not sure how likely that is...guess we shall see.

Last question relates to adding a completely seperate HR24. This will be for my son's room so he can record whatever he wants and it not get comingled with me and my wife's recordings. No issue with doing that, right? Just don't link it to the other existing DVRs, right?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and feedback!

You are experiencing the "joys" of having a HR34. Explain the glitches, tell them that watching recorded programs is annoying because of the pixeling. If you get a tech sent out, they usually call you before they come to your house. Ask if they have the HR44. If they don't, cancel that day and reschedule.

Adding a HR24 will help on that TV only. The clients are really bad with a HR34, hopefully you can upgrade and, assuming you're in "good standing," you can probably get some new discounts.

Well...good news to report. I negotiated pretty well IMHO on Tuesday - received a few discounts, a one time credit, two free HR24s, and a free GenieGo. I also got my HR34 replaced with a HR44. Everything was installed yesterday and is working flawlessly!

Just wanted to to ensure I shared a positive DirecTV experience!
