The FCC says they MUST allow you to own your own. That said, it has to be on their list of approved modems. TWC here in Austin GIVES OUT Motorola SBG6580's, but it wasn't on the list till recently (after I filed a bunch of FCC complaints).
I have to use their modem because I have their phone service(VOIP) also. I bought a cable modem but have never used it.
Neutron said:Suddenlink is like that with their VOIP phone service. They give you a new interface box for your cable, phone, and the internet is out of that box too.
I'm looking at the Motorolla SB6121 modem. How does a DOCSIS 3.0 compliant modem improve the current service I have now over the SB5101 I have now?
Because DOCSIS 3.0 enables faster speeds.

What brand model # are you using?
I recently got notice that Comcast will discount my service now if I supply my own modem. Before it was included so I just used their modem which is an RCA DCM425. Need to check into it.
The SB6121 arrived and tried to get it going today but Comcast is having trouble getting my account modified to add it. The service tech can't add the new one as the old one seems stuck to my account. They have to escalate a trouble ticket to a smarter technician. LOL! Why me?
