Hello all,
I currently live in Reno, NV but I have a vacation home in Seattle, WA. I'm interested in talking my receiver and an extra satellite up there so we can have Direct TV while on vacation. The trip is about 700 miles, is that too long? Any advice about how to get this done? Thanks!
Sara

:welcome to Satellilteguys Sara!

You can set up a dish at your vacation home, but you won't get the local channels from Reno because they are on a spot beam that won't reach as far as Seattle. The other channels will come in fine. Setting up a dish isn't particularly difficult, but it does take patience. Just so you know, it's against the terms of service of your contract to do it, but if you are only using one location at a time, it's not a big deal.

Actually, it's Only against the terms IF you use both at the same time.
D* Ok's people to have thier extra recvrs at cottages and vacation homes quite often.

Since I'm assuming that Sara isn't going to tell Directv that she has service in two locations (I wouldn't!), it is against the terms of service. You are supposed to inform them of the location of all of your equipment.

In the instances I have had over time (a friends lake home, and a few others) Yes, D* was informed of the situation when the Home set up was done ... I did the Lake install.
They are close enough in this case to get there home locals.

Great, so the distance shouldn't be an issue? I don't mind having the local Reno channels, prefer it actually, I just thought that maybe the signal wouldn't reach 700 miles. Thanks all!

No, it will more than likely not make 700 miles, my friends place is only about 70 miles apart.
You can try when you get it set up just in case, but I doubt it.
If you get all set up and turn to your original locals, you'll know right away if they come in or it says searching for signal.

It won't happen. The Reno spot beam won't make Portland.

FYI you have a KA/KU 5 LNB or triple sat LNB in Reno because your locals require it but in Seattle it wouldn't be necessary, you would be outside the spot beam and unless you get Spanish programming nothing else is on the 119 that you would receive.
