Installers came out last Saturday to install, get this they came at 8 pm and didnt leave till just after midnight! Not happy with the install either, but they agreed to come again this Saturday! Anyway, I need some advice on configuring my HT system. Below is details about my inputs / outputs on the components, can someone advise me on how to best hook up the system.

TV
Samsung 40" LDC Model LTN406W
1 Video / audio outputs 2 PC Video (DVI-D) Input
3 Video / audio inputs 4 Speaker out Jack
5 Super Video Input 6 Woofer output
7 TV antena 8 Component
9 Digital Audio In Jack 10 PC Audio Input

HT/ DVD
Samsung HT-SK6
1 S Video Out
2 Component Video Output jacks
3 Video Output Connector
4 External Video Component Input Connectors
5 External Digital Component Input connector
6 External Audio Component Input Connector
7 Subwoofer Preout Connector

942
1 Component Out
2 Digital audio out
3 HDTV output

I use the 942 to watch tv movies but I only get sound from the TV main speakers, is there a way to configure the system so that I can use the 5 speaker surround sound in the Samsung HT-SK6?

Connect the HDMI/DVI cable that came with the 942 to the TV for video (you may have already done this). Connect a digital optical cable (Tos-Link cable available almost anywhere including Wal-Mart) from the optical output on the 942 to the optical input on the Samsung HT-SK6. Turn off the TV speakers and use the surround sound system for sound. Make sure the 942 is set to output Dolby Digital instead of PCM only.

For starters, do you have a TosLink digital/optical audio input on your HT/DVD? What you need to be able to do is bring the component out's and either the optical out or analong L/R audio outs from your 942 to the back of your HT/DVD. Then, send either component outs or S-video outs to your TV, and make sure you turn off the internal speakers on your TV. Finally, make sure that there is some sort of menu item on your HT/DVD that will send the audio out to your speakers and sub.

I have the 942 DVI out to the TV but I also have the Components out from the 942 to the TV. I assume I can disconnect the component cables? I think I have the Tos-Link cable (small 2 mm rectangular plug) which is currently hooked to the TV (will try to hook up to the HT-SK6) this should give me surround through the HT / DVD System.

The installer used my existing cable (not sure of the type RG XYZ???) to provide the single to my tv I think the cable is about 15 years old? Should I have the installer run a new line? Will it effect the signal?

Ok, I now have surround sound using the HT system for the 942 signal (pluged in the TosLink digital/optical audio to the HT-SK6). However, when I turn off the HT unit I get no sound from the TV speakers. I looked but could not find a setting to turn on/off the tv speakers? I would like to use the surround for movies supplied by the 942 only and use the TV speakers for all other TV shows.

Just hung up with Samsung, they said the only way to get the tv speakers to work (alone) is to split the digital optical signal (one to the Tv which it has an digital input and one to the HT for surround). He said to keep the HT powered down for regular Tv but to power up the HT for Movies and then turn off the internal speakers.

Do they sell optical splitters?

Now a problem with Dolby 5.1

Bought a splitter from Radio shack and installed. The TV speakers work fine except when broadcasting in Dolby 5.1. When its in 5.1 I have to turn the volume way up to hear and then the signal sounds broken. Any Ideas? I checked the connections and the TV is set for Dolby / PCI? Could it be the cheap 2.99 clearence splitter ?

If the 942 is set to output Dolby Digital only, your set may not know what to do with the signal.

Or maybe you need to make some settings changes on the set itself. i.e. the set may have outputs for speakers and is treating its own speaker as a center channel expecting that you have the other speakers coming out from the set.

Did that make sense?
