HELP! All my Hopper 3 recordings are inaccessible

Happened to me also. The fix while the CSR was on the phone was to run a Partial Reset.

I watched one recorded show and then the problem was back. I did the Partial Rest myself and it has been a couple of hours and things seem normal again.

Update: If there are a number of episodes, the list appears. If only one program recorded or being recorded, the list build just cycles. The Info button does work on the single recording.

All I can do is press Info on the program icon.
Exactly. That's how I was able to watch my recorded content and the multiple episode list was available, at least for me.

I do notice I forgot to mention to highlight the recording first before pressing Info in the workaround :sorrysign

But like others have mentioned, it's working normally again

I did all 3 ways of resetting the H3S:
Through UI (menu-settings-diagnostics-tools)
Pressing and holding the Power button on the front panel
Unplug-plug in the power cord

None of those made any difference.
Then I guess your problem might not be the same as everybody else's that has been commenting, but I would still wait a little bit and record something and see if things work the way they should just for GP.

Known to who?

I would understand if this was the result of a firmware update but that was 15 days ago. Or can Dish slip in changes without an indication of software change?

Seems that a lot of what goes on with timers/recordings on Dish receivers is tied to guide data and other machinations at stately Dish manor (i.e. behind the scenes) and not necessarily tied to the hardware/software on the boxes in our homes. We've seen this a few times where something unbeknownst to us causes issues with guide data, timers, and/or recordings, that occurred outside of a software release and were magically cleared up in the background without a software release.

Stately Dish Manor... :p

It would be nice if Dish posted a list of known issues in a KB article somewhere. I would save us a lot of angst and efforts to save our endangered recordings.
I wonder if anyone form Dish monitors this forum.

This forum is where the DISH folks come to find out about the problems before they become 'known issues'. :biggrin

For me this problem is not fixed 100% yet I had a recording tonight that I know has 4 other episodes I went in to watch the newest one and got the searching green strobing line, I used the trick from above to watch the episode but I can see my other one's in my DVR that I checked.

Found a workaround...press Info and then choose Watch or Resume...recordings play back fine.
Wow! What a surprise to see this discussion here!

I first saw the flashing green bars last night when I tried to watch the CBS Evening News. Seeing that a reset seems to fix some problems, I did a red button reset and then it worked okay. Later it started messing up again so I called Dish. They had me do a "pull the plug" reset. Then they connected to my Hopper. (I, too, didn't know they could do that. Must be something new.) But while he was connected he had me try playing three or four recordings -- they all worked. He had me do a system check and that was okay. He had me check my trash. It was empty. He thanked me for being a long time Dish customer, said to call back if I have further problems, and we said good night.

Tonight, the same problem occurred, so I did a "pull the plug" reset and it started working again. It's been fine the rest of the evening.

Thanks to DJ Lon for the workaround. I'll keep that in mind if I have the problem again.

The Info-Watch allows access to the latest episode for any program. One could do that, delete the episode after playback, and repeat to access the episodes in chronological order.

But a lot of us have very precious stored episodes that we don't want to delete or lose. We need reliable access to all episodes of our recorded shows!!!

The delete (blue button) followed by Restore-from-trash has worked for me so far in making my episodes re-appear.
Sometimes I have to cancel at the flashing dots stage and re-try. That gets me the list of episodes.

Very unsatisfactory situation...

The issue seems fixed this AM!! I can get listings of my recorded episodes and at normal speed (no flashing dots). The firmware is still from 12/11/2018

This is good news, but WTF!? Why did this happen in the first place? How can guide info affect already recorded shows?
Dish reps, we need an explanation!!

Dish has already shipped me a new H3S. Should I bother with the swap?
Maybe the new H3S's have some hardware changes from mine (I have one of the earliest H3S's)? How can one tell?

The one they’re sending you is refurbished. There are no hardware changes and I think you’re making more out of this than there is. Just my opinion

The H3s swap was set up yesterday AM by Dish tech support, and not at my insistence. This was apparently not a known issue (to them) at that time. This was their attempt to fix the inaccessible recordings at that time.

When people are thinking that their archived recordings are at risk of getting lost, then it is a big deal.

I haven't decided what to do with the replacement H3S. Maybe I'll call Dish and update them on the situation and see what they suggest.

Edit: The tech recommended me to swap the H3S boxes.
