HDTV question ? ( Help )

I am new to HDTV. I just got a used Samsung hcm4216w from a friend that moved and couldnt take. From what I have read the tv is HDTV " ready ". What do I need from Directv to receive high def broadcasts ?
Samsung specs state :1080i HDTV monitor performance with add-on HDTV tuner.....not sure what that means...

If the TV has component, DVI or HDMI inputs, all you need is a HD tuner from D*. You don't really need the add in box from the televisions' manufacturer. Enjoy!
