HDMI hookup

Dish installed my 622 about 20 months ago. The HDMI cable is plugged into the 622 and the other end into the TV. However, in the cable between the the HDMI ends is another connection, apparently a male & female connection. It has continued to work properly since installation. I am just curious, can anyone tell me what type of connection this is and why it would have been installed? It would seem a male/male HDMI cord would be sufficient.

Based on other threads I've read, I would guess that what you have is an HDMI-DVI cable with an adapter and then a DVI-HDMI cable on the other end.

Yeah, that's the type of cable that USED to come in the HD boxes with the receivers. *sighs* Ah, the good ol' days! On the plus, I make more money selling my own cables!

Wouldn't that assembly eliminate the audio capability of the HDMI connection?
