HD upgrade question

I signed on to dtv 6mo. ago with a hddvr and 2 d12 recs. with a 2 yr. contract. I bought an second hd tv and need a hd rec. for it. Dtv wants $120 and so far bartering hasn't been successful. Perhaps info on a better deal from an authorized dealer. I've gotten mixed answers from dtv when it comes to used rec. One rep says it has to be owned outright to be activated and they really don't have anyway to tell me if they are leased or owned! Another rep says it doesn't matter as long as the rec is compatiable and they supply a card for $20. Researching this website on the topic, the general consensus is that it does matter if the rec is owned outright or leased. I don't want a paper weight! Any help.
