Is there a list of studios that have deals with E* to show their movies on HD PPV?

Specifically, I'd like to know if Dreamworks and/or Paramount do HD PPV on Dish Network. I know I recorded Over The Hedge from HD PPV. I'm wondering if Transformers will eventually make it.

No need to talk about the format war here thanks.

Yknow thats a good question. I think the HD PPVs are done based on demand for the movie. I'd think a movie like Transformers would be in HD on PPV.

However, I went to the HD guide on DN's site and 300 isn't in HD but movies like Bridge to Terabithia and Casino Royale are.

I, too, would love to hear what the logic is in how PPVs are chosen for the HD service.

I believe they are defined by contracts with the studios drdoo. For instance, Warner and Disney movies are not on there. Just wondering if Paramount had anything there.

Just to help you out a little.

300 - Not in HD - Warner Bros

Black Snake Moan - HD - Paramount Vantage
Bridge to Terabithia - HD - Buena Vista (Disney)
Casino Royale - HD - Sony/Columbia
Shooter - HD - Paramount

Looks to me if it's based on Paramount, we'd see Transformers in HD. Most of the movies available in HD PPV are from Feb/Mar release date in the box office.

Man, it would be hilarious if Transformers, Blades of Glory & Shrek the Third came out on HD PPV.

Does anybody know if E* uses true 1920x1080i resolution at higher bit rates than their HD-Lite channels for HD PPV? I bought The Island and Over The Hedge on HD PPV and they were stellar with very little to no macroblocking.

You can transfer PPV movies (including HD PPV movies) to the hard drive. I've already done it.

External hard drive, I presume. ;)

That leaves open two questions:
1. Can you transfer VOD to external storage?
2. Why would anyone want to?

I don't think you can even see the VOD to select to move. Unless you know something I don't. Rhetorical it was, only.

I found this thread while wondering the same question. So I checked this months HD PPV's and here's the studios on this month for the major movies:

Buena Vista

DreamWorks

Hollywood Pictures

Lions Gate

MGA

MGM

Miramax Films

New Line

Paramount Vantage

Touchstone Pictures

Warner Bros

Transformers HD = Ch 531

No its the same.. but I do think the HDPPVS are on less used trasnsponders so they do get more bitrate, but the resolution is hd lite.

Yeah, since I started this thread a long time ago, I actually already PPV'd Transformers. I would highly recommend NOT doing so. It's a zoomed and cropped MESS! If I wasn't so lazy, I'd ask for my money back.

Transformers, as a whole, was already too zoomed in for my taste (that was Michael Bay's intent). But when they zoomed in to crop, it made it unwatchable to me. Plus, there were so many audio drop-outs and video frames dropped, it was a big waste of money.

I'll be waiting for this one to come to Blu-Ray.

This was the exact opposite experience I had with The Island (which was a beautiful HD-PPV back before HD-Lite and multiple HD-PPV channels.)

My best advise to anyone considering E* HD-PPV: STAY AWAY. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
