Just got the Hopper?Joey installed today. Had a VIP-622 for years.

It sure looks to me like the HD picture quality of the Hopper comes up pretty damn short compared to the VIP-622 just removed. Faces are now smooth, not showing the detail like they did this morning before the install. Is this normal for the Hopper?

Same wiring, TV, even teh connectors - everything except the receiver. Almost looks like it is SD. Yes, on the HD channels like CNN, HBO, my recordings for example.

Should be absolutely no difference in picture quality. Check the settings to see if it is outputting in 720p or 1080i. It's possible that your receiver is outputting at 480p.

The Hopper was a tad better than my 722K, IMO. Better chip sets, or so it's told.

Yep, go to Settings, HDTV and make sure that you have either 720P or 1080I set.... Are you set up with an HDMI cable?

You should of said something to the tech before he left. Maybe you got a bad Hopper or it's something in the settings. Now I'm waiting for the comments stating that you should have 3 gig rated cable.

It was set on 1080 but I caned it a couple of times and could see it flicker when I did it and then unplugged the receiver, re-booted and put it on 1080 again and it seems OK.

I only had AD in the bedroom before and now the Joey with HD is noticeably better.

The 922 and Hopper have superior PQ (not a huge difference, but a slightly appreciable one) than earlier models. So, it should look slightly better than ViP622 which is pretty old. Yes, be certain the box is outputting 1080. Better chip set with better processing allows slightly better PQ from a Hopper.

Dish wanting to give me a hopper, but not without installing it.
