I have a quick question that I really don't think that the CSRs will answer honestly.

I live in an area that has local channels available to me via the dish but nothing in HD. My question is since I can get the local channels, would DTV let me get the East or West coast HD feeds for the networks. Seems logical but logic is not a deciding factor here.. :D

Thanks all!

Why not? Since I can still watch my local goober car salesman commercials, I should be able to fulfill any silly FCC requirements.

HDhysteria,
Are you saying that you have the same setup/situation? The network HD channels are a deal breaker for me. :hungry:

I would say that when I first received the network hd feeds the local hd was not available. Today I have both with the exception of NBC Network. It is my understanding that D* will request a waiver to each network feed you would like to receive and that it is the networks decision as to approve or decline.

I assume that my best option would be to call D* and place the order as opposed to signing up online. That way, I can request that the HD channels be added.

agreed, and request the waiver for network feeds, that could take some time but I believe if it is a deal breaker for you the cancellation period is 30 days.

when i first got hd with directv, locals weren't available in hd yet. i got a waiver for fox. but when i reactivated my account, i lost the fox feed. i'm guessing its because i now have my locals in hd!

Guessing again... :D
When you got directv, you had to wait until the waiver was approved before you got the hd locals?

The answer is probably no. Directv will have to get a waiver from your locals and if they are anything like mine, don't count on it. I live on a hillside that blocks over the air signals and the locals still say no. I get them on directv except for PBS and CBS.

Yeah, I think you're out of luck here... the overriding factor for a waiver (as I understand it) is whether you can get the local feed (regardless of HD/SD) OTA or via D*. Basically, if you have a way - any way - to see the local network, and their programming/advertising, your chances of them letting you watch another feed are very remote.

You're part of their area, which gives them the "right" to keep you from seeing other things - from a business sense, there's no reason for them to let you watch a NY or LA station when you "should" be watching theirs... and you'd never watch theirs if you had another one in HD and not theirs.

Your best option (and it's not a good one) is to complain to D* and/or your affiliate about getting their HD signal on the satellite, if you can't get it OTA.

I told them my account was for an R.V then after my channels were added in HD I called and told them I want my locals because i am in town once in a while and feel I shouldn't have to keep calling to change them with the spot beam out there... If I leave the service area of my locals I would be without locals so what's the harm??

Anyway with all that said I have 81 83 87 89 and my local hd's

Then again, I could be totally wrong... check out the HD DNS Service thread just started a couple days ago for more information on this - looks like there is at least a chance, and there is a page on D*'s site you can go to and see if you qualify without a waiver...

I just asked for the channels I couldn't get with my antenna and they gave me Fox CBS and PBS, took about 10 mins to get them.
