:eureka So I decided to be pro-active and send my local stations a little FYI email. !protest

Basically stated that I had Dish as do a number of my family and friends and we're unable to get HD locals because they aren't being broadcast on Dish. Then I also noted I was able to get an OTA antenna (12 footer) that is able to pick up their rival station at high 80's low 90's and their signal at low to high 60's.

I only got one response which was from WPTV who stated that their signal reaches 50 miles further from my home and that I needed a bigger antenna than a 12 footer. !sadroll

What's sad is I can barely pick up half my locals from the county I'm but I can pickup all of my channels in the other county which I'm not supposed to get by the stupid FCC rules.. what's worse is I get a great signal from them almost in all 90's.. Funny thing is because my retarded stations won't produce HD signal on dish I won't watch them, chalking up another customer lost and a viewer less that can count towards revenue.

Before you post "well you already get them via OTA why do you need them on Dish", it's for conflicting shows so I can record all of them in HD and not that crappy SD stuff they try and pawn off as TV. ;)

This pointless rant was braught to you by the letter W.

When you say "12 footer", do you mean length of the antenna or height of the mast? If you mean a 12' antenna, you can probably replace it will a much smaller 8 bay like the Channel Master 4228 and get better reception. If your HD stations are in different directions, you may need two. The really long antennas are more for VHF (2-13) channels and most HD is on UHF.

As long as a station is broadcasting a signal that complies with FCC regulations, there is nothing that says you're not supposed to get it OTA because of your geographic location. That rule applies to cable and satellite providers, who are not allowed to provide you with local channels from multiple markets.

Of course, your stations want their HD signals distributed on DISH. It is a DISH issue; not a local station issue. There is only so much bandwidth available to distribute signals with the satellites currently in use. DISH is currently broadcasting HD to the largest markets in the country. Those of us in smaller markets will have to wait until they have the capacity to provide our locals to us in HD.

This pointless rant ...

You got that right!

What switch to do I need?

Why no DD 5.1 on movie channels?
