It has been a long time since I updated on my experiment with a standard AU9 dish because we just have not had the weather to report on.

It is currently raining moderately/hard today and last night it was raining hard. Both instances I am getting a perfect picture, no digital residual at all, nothing. I did have a professional sight my dish, then I milled out the grooves to fit the specific setting. Although the milling did not have to be done to achieve the signal.

I run my signal strength at 64-70. I have had my set up since September. I have never had a signal problem.

So, if the 3 meter dish is too big the AU9 does work. If you have any questions I will be monitoring this thread for the next 2 weeks and after if you have any questions you can email me on my junk account that I periodically check. Please put Hawaii direct tv in the subject line for me to open it up.

"no digital residual at all," you mean on dish's surface ?
I can't get it - are you using AU-9 or 3m dish ?
Can you post a picture what was milled there ?

Sorry I had to start a photobucket account. Here ya go.

That last picture is not of the LNBFs, it's the SWM5 module.

And, Smith,P.; may I suggest that you just edit previous posts when there are no intervening replies. :)

Thank you for the education, here it is. The missing replies is because I deleted mine to keep this thread small and concise.

I don't know if I am. I have never had a problem with HD channels or any other channel. I do get all locals and all the channels I watch including all the movie and Sunday ticket, . I have never had a problem with channels coming in I do have the intro package now.

You have decent signal on all sats , exclude 103s; If you'll get tropical storm/heavy clouds, take same pictures - will be interesting to see how it affect.
That last picture made me dizzy :) - what is your floor? 8th ?

Like I said before the other night and yesterday it was raining hard and low clouds and I had 0 problems with picture reception.

That's good to know, but as an engineer I'd prefer make a deal with numbers and pictures ( that's why all UFO become flying object with human background ;) ).

I understand what your saying. I don't know the numbers when it is raining , hell it took me all day just to post the current pics. I just know that I have never had a problem with my picture/signal in the weather. I am not here to sell anything just to let people know that it is possible to use the AU9-slimline 5 in Oahu. I took a big risk by paying for the dish and getting it sent out here and I am happy to report that it does work. I did this because I could not have had D* if I had to have the 3m dish. I know there are others that could benefit from this and it would be selfish to not let others know.

Good to know thanks, we have been vacationing in Oahu from time to time, while
watching lowly analog TVs in even the best of the hotels and bars, I kept
wondering if some day we could retire in paradise (a man can always dream:))
one thing that would be missing would be the same HD service we had in the
mainland, or one must put up a dish the size of a BUD.

I assume the signal is similar on all the islands?

what about mililani oahu? im on the 11th floor lanai facing se also is direct tv still installing 2 satelittes in there free install on oahu or will i have to beg argue and inform them the same performance and better asthetic option is the slim line 5 asking cuz my installs scheduled for dec 24
