I never have that problem with the new dishes.
That was my biggest surprise when moving to D* from E*. I almost never have rain fade these days.

Unless you like to watch Tv when it rains.
After 14 months with Directv right out of the blue .. I got a call from Dish last night asking if they could tell me about new offers that they had available ...
Seems like someone or something at Dish has woken up and decided to start marketing their product again ...
I have always had more problems with cable than with satellite. The cable in our place in Mammoth goes out more in the snow than Direct does when I bring it up. Even my internet and phone go out more with my current TWC at our main house than the TV goes out with Direct.Unless you like to watch Tv when it rains.
The HD Leader thing was always a fleeting Idea. At some point each will have all that is available. With Dish and DirecTV we are getting much closer to both being equal. To me the first one that stops this silly $10 charge for HD will be the real leader. HD is where it's all at now, and it really ought to just be the standard.
I would be willing to bet that Direct will, in the future, increase the price of that base package by $5 for everyone and eliminate the $10 charge for HD. They may still have the additional charge for the HD extra channels though. The HD Leader thing was always a fleeting Idea. At some point each will have all that is available. Like someone said, what matters is the HD that I watch. But I will take it a step further and say the HD that "most people" watch. When I add up the National HD on D* and E*, I don't include the RSNs or Premiums and being a straight hetero I don't include Lifetime, LMN and Hallmark. I'll take my 101 and Smithsonian. This is true, at some point they both will carry all of the channels. The "lead" will keep going back and forth until they get there. The Dish subs are crowing now because it's their turn. Good for them. Without the competition there would be no incentive for either company to add channels.
That's right here and I am in Verizon Territory. FIOS is a very slow roll out, as only 2 suburban communities have it available in the buffalo/niagara falls ny area. Furthermore, in the rural town I live in; Verizon DSL isn't available to me either. So, basically your choices are Dish, Directv or TWC. TWC has to their credit been adding hd quite regularly too. Plus that have a very tempting triple play offer too.
When did Grand Island become a "rural town"?
Are you ever happy with D*? If not, are there perhaps other options available to you? I assume E*, but what about cable? Not only have they lost it, they will never regain it

No offense, but I personally would not have a service that left me that unsatisfied if there were options
I can't believe I'm the first one to say this...
E* can have as many "HD" channels as they'd like, even double the number.
If it's not full resolution and bitrate, they suck. Period. Finito. End of story.
Those of us who lived through D*'s "HD Lite" days should know this. I can't believe people are getting this hung up on some marginal HD channels (as much as I would like ESPNU-HD, I'll admit it's a niche).
