For the last few CEs now (which is why I'm not posting this in a particular CE thread), I've noticed that sometimes playback of recorded shows - over MRV or local - sometimes hangs. Sometimes a few seconds go by and you get the "Delete this recording?" prompt you usually get at the end of the show - regardless of the fact that the show may have only been 5 minutes in.
Hitting Stop and restarting the playback often works. On some occasions, I need to restart the receiver.
I think that I may have finally spotted the pattern. If I am tuned into an OTA channel (via the AM21), this seems more likely to happen. And the 'flakier' the reception is, the more likely.
I suspect that the receiver is attempting to keep the live TV buffer going underneath the playback, but when the reception suffers a glitch of some sort, the failure percolates upwards until it affects playback.
Next time this happens, I'll be sure to take a report, but I thought I'd throw out this hypothesis in the meantime.
