Recently I had to swap out my HD receiver for a H21 because of issues it was having. This is setup in my bedroom and I have always been able to hide the receiver and control it with the RF antenna and remote. The H21 has the built in RF antenna, but the range is what I am having problems with. I am about 8 ft. away from the receiver and it rarely works. I was not expecting the built in antenna to work as good as the external one that my old receiver had, I used to be able to control channels from the next room on another t.v., but it pretty much defeats the purpose of the RF capabilities the way it is working right now. Any advise would be appriciated. :(

8 feet is not right. Try new batteries, or even a new remote. Are you sure your remote is RF?

You are sure there is no RF antenna connection on the back?

If all else fails, the receiver is probably defective.

Yes, the remote is RF and there is definately no RF antenna connection on the back. I actually called DirecTV before activating it, to make sure it was RF capable and it is, the antenna is just built in the receiver. I'll try different batteries and maybe see if I can set another RF code. It is begining to become a pain when trying to change channels when half asleep LOL!!!
