My parents have a Dish 500 and are using a 301 receiver. For the past week, each time they press the guide button, it comes up and says it has to download. Most of the time it just sits there and doesn't download at all and they end up pressing cancel. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks

Could be you just need to reset it. Unplug wait for 20 seconds or so. If not Check the signal strength. Should be above 70 on an odd and even transponder on sat 119 and 110. Try transponders 19 and 20. If its good run a check switch. Should come back either odd/even odd/even or all all under polarity. Cancel out and it will reset and download again. If not could be something else.

No, they turn the receiver off every night. I'll tell her to try to unplug it and then reboot. Thanks

do they leave it on all the time?

Otherwise, do a hard reboot. Unplug from electrical for 30 seconds

I think this a software issue. Many (including mine ) ExpressVu 3100's also have this same problem.

Ahhhhh, DVR's need to dl guides too!!!!!!!

And, don't forget to post when your receiver dumps all your recordings.

I had her unplug the unit last night for a few mins and then reboot. The signal strength as over 100 on 119 and around 95 on 110. After the reboot, she said that it seemed to be working normal again. So, I guess that is what it needed. Thanks.

Mine needs to download the guide every few hours of inactivity. my signal is 100+ on both 119 and 110. I just learned to press guide and then go get something to eat or drink while it downloads.

Yikes. That would be very annoying. How can you not live without the EPG? Well, I can't. It'd be like using analog cable.

Yeah, my DVR has to download the guide but only once every 24 hours in the middle of the night and it's good for 9 days.

I guess I've been lucky so far. Two 7200s, a 721, two 522s, now a ViP622. Never yet had a wiped hard drive or otherwise lost recording. (now that I've actually mentioned it, probably will lose everything tomorrow)

Of course I am also spoiled rotten at this point. I literally don't understand how people without DVRs are able to watch TV. It causes perceptible pain to visit my inlaws (no, I actually LIKE my inlaws, it's because they still have analog cable). :) I will obviously be one of the first to die from technology deprivation after the EMPs hit in the next war...

hahah i feel the same way. I become very annoyed when im visiting someone and i try to go back in the program i was watching, and then i realize i can't :( I also do not think I could ever go without a DVR again.

Refund on 625...please help!!
