Gregg's coming tomorrow!

Went great. Gregg is very professional and spends a long time explaining what hes doing, will also answer any questions.

Pretty wild when I asked him how much his calib tool cost and he said $16k :)

Tv has better detail and colors, skin tones look MUCH better. I had previously set it myself using the DVE bluray.

Now you can watch your tv and really enjoy it. No more guessing if colors are right or black level is deep enough.

The bad thing is that if you have more than one hdtv in your house and only one is calibrated, the others will look like crap.

Did he say what he thought about the type of TV you have? I'm vacillating between a Sammy LNxxA630 and a Panny xxPZ85U. (haven't decided on size yet--depends on budget).

How's the glare on your Panny anyway? Is it in a room with lots of windows? Did he callibrate for a darkened room?

He was impressed with the blacks, commented more than once. Also stated the Kuro's were great tv's, but he liked the Panny plasmas.

If I had it all to do over again, Id buy a 800u off Amazon.

Glares not bad, Im in a pretty large living room that has 6 windows. If I stand with my back to the tv, all the windows are along the right hand wall. I dont have any directly behind the tv, but they do shed a lot of light because I dont have any blinds.

He calibrated the tv with me having garbage bags over the windows, but he calibrates it to proper brightness and its just fine for me in the daytime.

Good to know. I've got windows to my right and one directly facing.

I keep waiting and waiting for prices to drop before pulling the trigger: first on the 85u and Sammy 650, now on the 800u and 630. And I'm sure there'll be something else coming down the pipe soon enough in my price range ($1,200 for 40-42"; $1,600 for a 46-47")
that beats both of those!

Nah, the 800u can be tuned better and has more shades of gray. It also has the THX mode which allegedly looks pretty good if you dont want to pay for a calibration. The one sheet of glass look is cool though.

Honestly, the new glare coating on these is good, but Id avoid a plasma facing a window. Unless you can put dark curtains up.

If I look at an angle to where I pick the windows up in the screen, they can be seen pretty clearly, just appears Im looking at them thru dark sunglasses. The coating works good, just not much you can do with glass and reflections.

The 1080p PQ on this set from my BD30 is phenomenal.

Itll be a long time before I replace it, first HDTV set Ive been completely happy with.

The 50" 800u is $2100 on Amazon and the 50" 85 is only $1600, not bad prices for these tv's. I bought my 85u the week best buy got it, $2499 :(
