I finally gave up trying to get an acceptable picture on SD channels http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=41281&page=2. The local guys brought out a 311 receiver and no improvement over the 811 so I had them pull the system. The installer calls Dish to notify them I'm disconnected as he walks out the door. Then, the Dish people offer to send one of their own "senior service people" out to help diagnose the problem. She says that 90% of the time, they can solve the problem. I told her that my installer said they were going to talk with Dish 2 weeks ago when the system was installed and see if Dish had any ideas. No offer was ever extended to me. I said I would have been happy to let Dish people come try and fix it had they done so before the dish and receivers were removed.
