Updates come via satellite. It was definitely in standby (or I would have known otherwise) and as far as I know, that is the only way we can receive updates

I'm guessing "how long" would just depend on the update. Previously when they interrupted my viewing it wasn't more than a few minutes but as I said, the "nightly updates" didn't necessarily include a firmware change/update.I put the H3 into standby about an hour ago using the power button on the remote and now when put it out of standby by hitting select, it's on U303, previously it was on U301. I wonder how long does it usually take to download the update.
i just wish they would pull that netlfix app until they can get that issue with ultra 4k hd resolved
I had my TV on and box off when I got 303 on 2/10. It didn't seem like the actual download took more than a few minutes (I watched it) and the whole thing wasn't a lot longer than just rebooting the receiver - if memory serves me (and it doesn't always LOL)I'm guessing "how long" would just depend on the update. 5.1 registered fine on my receiver last night. I was watching Netflix through my Hopper 3 and was getting 5.1 to my receiver. There is no 5.1 on Netflix. Whoever says there is, is full of it. Just cause it says 5.1 in the program description, does not mean it's there. Works great on my Roku not Hopper 3. Disappointing....hope they can get 5.1 added.

That's just silly. In my casual observation, Netflix responds much more quickly on my H3 than it did on my HWS, and the quality is at least as good. Whenever that "issue" that you're so worked up about is resolved, the app can be updated so you can enjoy your Brand New Ultra 4K Super Exciting High Powered Magnum Turbo HD. In the meantime, enjoy what you have. There's absolutely no reason to pull it.i just wish they would pull that netlfix app until they can get that issue with ultra 4k hd resolved
normally I wouldn't have bothered but in this case I was expecting the update and was curious about the time-frame too. I was hoping for some fixesThat's the thing, I always leave my box on so unless I know there is a update like this case, I wouldn't put the box off and the tv off as well.
we don't always know so I believe it's wise to keep the receiver off when not in use. But maybe that's just me.That's the thing, I always leave my box on so unless I know there is a update like this case, I wouldn't put the box off and the tv off as well.
And not ALL Netflix subscribers have 4K yet. That's just silly. In my casual observation, Netflix responds much more quickly on my H3 than it did on my HWS, and the quality is at least as good. True, I mean if I didn't know about the new software version, I would probably still have U301 until there was a power outage. LOL.normally I wouldn't have bothered but in this case I was expecting the update and was curious about the time-frame too. I was hoping for some fixes
I understand the issue is on Netflix's side. Only thing DISH can do it wait. This is why they stopped the roll out.The issue is simple. In another thread it was explained that Dish and Netflix haven't yet properly implemented the flag that you have a 4k account with Netflix. It will be fixed.

The reason I don't keep the receiver off is because my mom who is almost 90 years old is illiterate, she only knows how to turn on and off the tv, doesn't know how to change channels, or use the replay stuff so it's easier keeping the box on and then if she turns the tv on and it's showing some show as it's always tuned to the same channel, I can always rewind using the buffer which is not possible if the box is on standby. Standby is only useful if you were recording everything already, otherwise you would not be able to go back in the buffer.we don't always know so I believe it's wise to keep the receiver off when not in use. But maybe that's just me.
