I just got a Vip622 installed, but only have one RG-6 cable at that outlet (and no good way to run another). I was on cable before, with local (Austin) channels in HD, and didn't realize how much I'd miss them. Dish won't give me an estimate of when they'll offer my locals in HD, so I needed to get an OTA antenna hooked up. After hours of research, I stumbled on the forum here, and read a zillion posts on this subject.
I had tried using splitter/combiners on TV2 out and OTA in, but that messed up my TV2 reception. Then I read a suggestion to change my modulated TV2 out from "cable" to "air", and select a channel at least 3 away from any OTA channels I get. I tried it, and it worked! So for the cost on an antenna and a couple of cheap splitters/combiners, I now get my locals in HD. I didn't have to try to fish a new cable (which probably wouldn't have worked in my house anyway), and I couldn't be happier!
