Going back to D from E, after only six months.......

 another E vs D thread say it aint so! The poor guy was asking what type of package D retention would give him and we ended up debating whether or not D's installers are competant.

Some guy flat out stated in his opinion that the 622 was better than the HR20.

Did the guy back up the statement? Has he ever used both tuners? We dont know because he doesnt back up his statement.

Its pretty simple. The technology is new to both companies. The 622 and the HR20 have bugs. Some people have never had problems with either and are happy with their choice.

Installers are both good and bad for both companies. Some good some bad.

As for D following up on repair calls or installation. I have been with them for years and they have always called me after an installation. In your case it may have been different but in mine that was not so.

So as for what D will give you, call the retention number explain everything. Explain that you are on the hook with E and they might give you a really really good incentive plan to offset your obligation costs with E.

As for the rest of you...can we argue which is better McDonalds or Burger King or Coke and Pepsi. This site gets boring with the same posts over and over and over about D vs E.

I called D yesterday and they said they will give me the Total Choice Premiere at $99 a month with $20 off per month for six months. The HD package free for four months. The install will be $99 plus a $19 fee of some type. Not too bad, I'm just hoping to keep the E penalty below $300. I have nobody to blame but myself when I agreed to the commitment from E. A very expensive lesson!

Pepsi's better. You got a problem wit dat?

Diet Coke fanboy here..you pepsi cupcake!

How bout less filling or tastes great? :)

All I know about the choice between D* and E* is that they both have different positives for different people. To have the same old same old mine is better than yours argument is just dumb.

If there is a an E* sub who lets say loves voom. No other provider competes because no other provider has it. In that subs mind E* rocks.

For me with D*, Im a sports fan. I love NFL ST and the RSN's in HD. So for me no other provider can compete.

We all choose the provider which fits our needs the best.

Thats why I love reading the E* forums. On the D* side you would think the HR 20 was the worst invention since Pepsi Clear! (I know I know New Coke sucked too!:D )

But if you read the E* forums on E* side the 622 has a bunch of detractors as well.

Its human nature here. The only threads on the HR20 and the 622 are negative ones. The only positive posts come in defense of people choices.

You never see a thread in either forum saying "My HR 20 recorded three programs in a row without a problem!!! Way to go HR 20

You see threads likeI cant believe I missed super nanny I had a season pass set up and for some reason it didnt record. I called the CSR at D* and they were no help at all.(Like the guy in Boise knows why your box didnt record)

Lets face it all of our providers stink! I think we all want the same thing. A provider that provides the following:

1. Great HD and SD signals
2. All of the possible HD channels including locals and RSNs
3. DVRs which are reliable and not full of bugs
4. Easy to use guides and functions.
5. All of the possible sports packages
6. On Demand
7. A tuner for OTA signals
8. Intelligent installers and CSRs
9. A decent price

Right now there is no provider out there that provides all of those items. We have to pick which of those are important to us and match those up with the provider that best suits our needs.

With that said any intelligent individual knows that the closest to filing those demands is Directv!!!:D :D :D Mines better than yours baby!:D :D

Let me give you one more reason for the switch. I woke up this morning and turned on the tv, and a message came up and said my hard drive has been corrupted and everything will be deleted. Great. I can't wait to tell the old lady all the fitness shows and alike that she taped are history. Just one more reason to go back. This isn't the first time for this. All the extra HD content is not worth it for me.

DTV - Always ask for Customer Retention

Directv retention department is probably the only ones that can answer your question. Each returning customer is an individual case. Congratulations on the switch the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

Through my dealings with D* over the last 3 years, I've found that the basic CSR is not nearly as informed as the average Customer Retention Person. I ALWAYS ask for Customer Retention as soon as I need to speak with anyone regarding service and equipment issues/upgrades.
