This title was supposed to be available last year in the U.S. but was put off until July 2007. It was released in the UK in December. On a lark I purchased a copy from Amaz*n.co.uk. Ordered it on a Thursday, it arrived on Tuesday via air mail. I can confirm the disc has no region coding, so it plays back perfectly here in the U.S. Cost with shipping is about £ 18 ($35.45). A bit pricey but you get bragging rights to having a movie that is currently unavailable to most consumers.

Nowhere on the disc is the region code stamped. The box has the UK ratings symbols, but otherwise it looks no different than any other DVD-HD. Inexplicably, an FBI warning plays on startup.

HP & the GOF is now my favorite demonstration DVD. The transfer is absolutely stunning. Sound quality is impressive with lots of low frequency effects. If you like the HP series I would highly recommend getting a copy.

It is a great movie. I got it in December from xploited cinema. All HD-DVD's are region free.

I see AVS forum covered this a couple of months ago. I'll give xploited a try.

Are there any other popular movies available in Europe or Asia that are not yet here?

I just ordered HP Goblet of Fire this morning. :D

I got mine though hdmoviesource.com here in the U.S. $39.99, plus $4.50 shipping per order. I combined it with pre-orders for The Good Shepherd & A Scanner Darkly, so the shipping wasn't that bad. Plus, new customers can use the coupon code NEW10 for a 10% discount. They also have Rambo 1,2, & 3, and Total Recall, all French. (Harry Potter is U.K.). I may had Total Recall to a future order, it's one of my favorite Arnold movies (I can't spell his last name, the current gov. of Calif.) :p

EDIT: Even though these are European releases, almost all have a 5.1 English soundtrack.

I thought there are still a few HDDVD that are Region coded, I wanted to pick up the Worldcup Highlights of every goal on HDDVD from Amazon.UK and it says Region2.

No, the players don't support Region coding at this time. I believe Amir (A M$ VP who posts on AVS) said it's possible to add it with a FW update, if that would bring one of the BD exclusive studios over to releasing on HD DVD. But, not supported at this time.

I think that's just a carry-over from DVD listing specs on Amazon's part. Harry Potter says region 2 as well, and it plays fine on North American HD DVD players.

A lot of times, Amazon will simply copy and paste whatever info the SD-DVD has. They did the same thing with HPaTGoF. Said it was region coded and PAL. As others have said, HD-DVD at this time is Region Free and plays on any player.

I've added "The Holiday" to my collection. The kids and I have mostly action flicks and adult comedies, nothing for the wife. This title is available in the UK on HD DVD but BluRay only in the U.S. The HD DVD version doesn't have any of the DVD extras, but I'm OK with that. I got it from sendit.com. It shipped in about 1 week.

I lived in Guilford in Surrey about 4 miles from the village of Shere, where one of the main characters lived. I lived on the SE edge of town and took long walks to Albury and Shere. The HD version looks great and reminds me of how green Surrey is, even in winter.

I too added The Holiday to my collection of HD-DVDs, my wife and I netflixed the DVD and she loved the movie. I am really trying not to buy DVDs anymore so I ordered the HD-DVD from amazon.co.uk. The movie worked flawlessly for me.

I have been tempted to order the Harry Potter HD-DVD but I do have them all on DVD so I don't really want to pay the premium to order it from the UK, there are some other imports I'd like to get though the first being Underworld II from Spain.
