Glorystar Dual LNB Upgrade Kit

3ABN was added nearly a year ago to all subscribers. There was some confusion about this since the channel number fell right in the middle of the Sky Angel channels... Read more HERE.

New Question

I've been working on a generic GloryStar like setup. I had considered two different LNB's that have 4 degrees of separation.

I can see several advantages of the GloryStar upgrade kit and it is less expensive.

Which one would be better? The GloryStar upgrade kit or the Sadoun Monoblock?

Glorystar system :)

-can make separate adjustments on the LNB's
-they're standard LNB's so you can use it with a diseqc switch or 22k switch
-the LNB's are both offset by 2 degrees so you get good results on both. monoblock one LNB is primed and the 2nd is offset.

Zinwell 4x8 or 6x8 compatible?

I dont understand the point of the post, but OK. Whatever

There is one minor error

if the diseqc is port 2, then you do not turn the 22k on. The 22k is only for Universal LNB's (which the Glorystar system uses Standard LNB's) or if you use a 22k switch (Glorystar system uses a diseqc switch)

Is it possible to use a zinwell 4x8 or 6x8 multi-switch to add multiple recivers? For the Glorystar setup. If so, how would I accomplish that?

For the stock Glorystar system? No as the LNB is a single output

Now if you rigged your own setup with 2 dual LNB's then yes you could use a 4x8 multiswitch

Thanks for that info. I attempted my install today, but ran into problems getting both satellite to bring in all the correct channels and transponders. I read your post, which advised to aim at 99w. What LNB bracket should I use first, skew, and transponder should I aim for. I live in Cape Coral, FL. 33990

See the attached pdf. Note that the dual bracket will be rotated CCW (to the left 30.3°). Hook LNB #1 (without the switch) directly to your receiver and find AMC 4 (101°W). Once you have found it, unplug your receiver, install the switch, plug in the receiver and balance your best signals from G25 (97°W). The trick is to setup AMC 4 first - it has the strongest signals (I would use 3ABN for aiming).
Good luck, Bob

Thanks. I followed those exact same directions originaly. I have not been able to get 3ABN above 90 strength and 54 quality. Is there some small critique im missing?

54% Signal Quality on a Fortec Star Mercury II is very low.

The signals on AMC4 have been varying recently as SES load balances on AMC2 in co-location. All Signal Qualities are reduced, but not to this extent.

Consider these possibilities:

Blocked or partial Line of Sight issues causing decreased signal?

Dish checked for warping prior to assembly or the string test applied post assembly? see attached JPEG

Incorrect LNBF Rotation (Skew)?

Thanks. Your 100% right! My Dish has an abnormal arc. When laying on flat surface. The edges did not lay flat all the way around. Fanning it out could not fix this type of warp. Waiting on new dish and sending this one back. Thanks again.

String tested my dish a while back and found ~ 5/8" separation between the strings at the crossover. Flexed the dish on the mount until the strings just kissed. Raised my quality by 20 points on Gospel Music Channel. It wasn't that hard to fix on the pole, but makes me wonder if it won't droop back into the old shape after a while. (?)

Of course, the majority of new growth and channel placement will now occur on 101W. Only a few channels are moving to G19 and the departure of these few SCPC channels will open the satellite to many MCPC channels!
Yes, but who will fill the void? That is the interesting question that I look forward to seeing answered. :)

I have an idea or two about who some of the players might be. My prayers are with them!

What is SCPC and MCPC?
Google (among others) is your friend! Here's the top result from Google:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_channel_per_carrier

I've read other, better explanations, but this is a quick and easy answer.

EDIT: Here's some additional info from Topbits.com.
SCPC stands for Single Channel Per Carrier.
SCPC is a form of satellite transmission where each channel is transmitted on a dedicated single carrier.
The alternative to SCPC is MCPC (Multiple Channel Per Carrier).
MCPC is more efficient than SCPC, but SCPC is still utilized for some satellite feeds. By using SCPC, satellite users are able to uplink to the same transponder from multiple locations.
So, the efficiencies of MCPC will require more uplink coordination than was enjoyed in the past with SCPC.

Cheers!

So I've used GeoSatFinder to figure out the positioning. How do I get both of these satellites, when the angles are different for all 3 things?

Glorystar 2 LNBF (99.0 W)
Compass Reading: 226.3 deg
Dish Elevation: 37.5 deg.
LNBF Rotation: +26.0 deg

Galaxy 19 (97.0W)
Compass Reading: 223.7 deg
Dish Elevation: 38.5 deg.
LNBF Rotation: +24.2 deg.
