Someone gave me a 522 but dont have DISH network service, can I use with Cable TV?

I see it has an antenna/cable tv input in the back. Can i hook it up to Adelphia Cable and use it? At least to pause what is being show on TV. Can it change channels on Analog Cable?

What hacks are available... to use with Cable TV, if any?

Then again if nothing else could try to sell it on eBay and make some money.

Nope, it's just a Dish Network receiver. There's no way to use regular cable with it.... put it up on the auction block!

But call DISH Network and give them the R00 and S00 numbers to be sure they don't own it. Most 522 are leased property of DISH. :)

i just rememberred...

The person cancelled service and Dish forgot to ask for it back.

So yeah I could not sell it....

Well I guess at least its good for the hard drive, will take the hard drive out and use in a computer.

The case... well i think i'll make a video ... "I hate this damm DVR...." a smashing video... ha ha. (kidding maybe)

But will sell the 2 remotes though (IR and RF)

Forgot to ask for it back?? That is a good one. The previous subs is required to send the unit back at his expense, or he's VERY LIKELY to get a VERY LARGE bill for that 522 receiver.

Personally I think that was a bad decision on his part as he it is likely to cost him money.

If you are truely his friend I suggest you give him back the receiver and tell him to settle with Dish before they come after him.

Probably in about 60 days your friend will be begging to get the unit back when he finds a big bill on his credit card.

front end (fun) vs. backend (misery)

ditto that, neighbor/ friend/ acquaintance you need to give the leased unit back to the original lessor lest they end up with a less than equitable sale of said product i.e. the 522 on your behalf.

SAM's club had some very cheap 160 gig hard drives yesterday well under the cost of the cannibalized 522 drive right off the shelf.

(Note: I'm not a Sams/ Walmart employee just a Southpark Junkie, and proud sponsor of capitalism.)

So I just read the 942 review on dbstalk...
