getting on the sat belt

ok I'm useing a SG2100 with 31 inch dish with invacom qph031 reciever is a SV4000, my problem is this, Plumb pole found true south , my closest sat to my loc is 82 so I aimed for that sat useing Cir LNB got it but now I only get 82 to 119 all Cir . and no Liner sats .I figure I must be close if I can get 82 to 119 , can someone tell me best was to tweak it to get the true FTA on Liner LNB ?

Here are a few thing's to think about, the circular satellites are very high powered so they do not need as much accuracy as linear FTA, the second thing it circular signals do not care about LNB skew, with linear FTA you must have the LNB skewed correctly or else you will not pick up anything.

I read that with a motor you don't need skew that when the motor moves to sat it auyomatic put skew on dish . Is that wrong ?

The skew should be set to zero, if the LNB is not turned the correct way the motor will not skew the LNB correctly,

Also you need to change the LNB frequency to 10750 for linear FTA vs. 11250 for circular FTA.

You should also try to aim at a Linear satellite close to your true south (79 or 83 would work) since your dish elevation may be too high or too low,
with Circular since the signals are so powerful you can be way off for Linear FTA.

I'd recommend AMC5 at 79W . Use tp 12182H/23000 , the New York Network. It's pretty powerful and you should be able to optimize on that tp. As previously mentioned, the circular birds are good for a rough calibration of your dish, but are so powerful that even mis-aligned dishes can pick them up adequately. A linear sat, on the other hand, is a touchy thing to acquire.

When I set up my motor, the best thing I did was first aim at true south, then aim at something on the far end of the arc to the west and to the east and tweak ever so slightly on your elevation, and maybe even move your lnb by hand on the arm of the satellite just a smidge to tweak signals from the 30s to the 60s or so on the weakest of tps. Eventually after enough tweaking, you'll basically get all the bolts to line up to as good as you are going to get. When that happens, you might just tweak on one bolt or whatever til you are satisfied and are getting the full arc. Always, no matter what, make sure you have a level on your pole when tweaking to make sure you don't accidentally nudge the pole out of level in any direction too... and keep an eye on that bubble as you work so that it stays that way. a cheapo level from wal-mart with a magnet on it should do the trick.

If you have a compass and know how to use it? Step back about 4 feet or more from the pole, and look at the motor (SG2100), and see if it is pointed to True South, and not at your True South Satellite. The motor should be pointed to True South, and then the Receiver will move the Dish to your True South Satellite. Most people are not lucky enough to have there True South Satellite actually be in the True South position from there location? A lot of beginners will point the Dish (with it at "0" on the motor, to there True South Satellite (instead of there True South), and then it causes the ARC to be Off-Centered. I think that's probably what has happened to you? Good Luck!
