Getting D* installed tomorrow

The CSR said they could not add the AM21s to my order and that he would add it to the notes on my order that I would need them for my locals in HD. I'm guessing that means I won't get them installed with my HD-DVRs tomorrow, but I thought maybe you guys could let me know if this is standard practice.

Does the installer have them on their truck and can then bill me for them? Will I have to call up D* and order them? Should I order them from a 3rd party?

you shouldn't worry about this because hooking the am21 is very very easy. you'll be fine.

I had the same situation last week. I couldn't order the AM21 until after my new HR21 was installed. I called back the next day, ordered it through a CSR at no charge, and she said I would receive it in a few days. Sounds pretty easy to install.

Yea, the install is as easy as it can get.

- Remove the power cord from the HR21
- Connect the supplied USB cable from the AM21 to the HR21's USB port
- Connect the supplied pigtail power cord from the AM21 to the HR21's power port
- Plug in the power cord you removed from the HR21 into the AM21's power port
- Hit the power on button on the remote or the HR21, both the AM21 and HR21 will power on

After the box completes its bootup go to the setup menu and you'll now see a Sat & Antenna option, go to the Antenna setup and follow the on screen prompts for adding your zip code and selecting what ATSC channels you want the box to receive. Once done don't forget to edit your favorites list to add the ATSC channels. Enjoy!

So if the USB port is "open" for the HR21, is there any value in attaching anything else via USB to this model? I only have the HR20, so it wouldn't serve me any purpose, but still curious.

I figured it was easy... wasn't worried about that. I just wanted it installed right away.

When I placed the original order, and then the follow-up AM21 call, I told them that I didn't think I should be losing my OTA channels just because I'm switching boxes. When she placed the order, she said that there would be no charge. Not sure if she did that or if it just comes up that way as part of the HD swap-out. Good luck!

The new mpeg 4 stuff like Hist and A&E for example seem sharper to me. Guy like Dfergie who have both seem to confirm.

The Mpeg2 stuff like ESPN looks liek crap on both, good news is the MPeg2 stuff on D* is going Mpeg4 this week!

Nope not in the truck. 100% self install including your OTA coax from your antenna.
