Does DirecTV's caller ID only work with certain phone services? Has anyone got caller ID working with Vonage onto their set-top box? What do I need to do to enable it?

Should work with any service.
I know it works with AT&T, Verizon, Frontier, Buckeye cablesystem.

To enable, you need to have the service thru your phone provider and connect it to your recvr, go into the Caller ID section of your recvr and make sure it's ON.

mine worked with my VoIP service, but "I" turned it off because I think its annoying.

I also think it's annoying but my wife doesn't :). I'll try hooking up a phone line to my receiver and see what happens. Thanks guys.

Some like it, some don't. ....
I like it as I don't have to get my glasses to read the print on the phone now.

I like it when it works. Seems once a week I have to reboot the receivers for the caller id to work.

Are you with a regular phone company or voip ?

I have done both and had some issues while with the phone company working, but none since I went to voip. that said, I don't believe it's a issue with the companies supplying it as the service works on all my phones, just didn't some times on the recvr.
I don't look at it as an issue worth bringing up with D* as I feel it's an added convenience, if it was a TV recving television, then I would bring it to thier attention.

Mine is VOIP. It's through my through Atlantic Broadband that's our local cable company. I often think it might be something with them because sometimes I get "No Data Sent" on the caller ID. Never had that when I was with Verizon.

My aunt lives with us and she has problems reading the caller ID off of her phone but she can see the tv caller ID better and also I use my cellphone so much it's better just to see who's calling to see if it's worth finding a phone or not. I wouldn't even have a house phone if it was for my aunt.

How do you set up your DirecTV caller ID with magicJack?
My guess would be the same way you do it with everything else. Plug a phone line from your receiver/DVR into a wall jack and a phone line from the majicjack into another wall jack The MagicJack will power all of the outlets in the house

I've had AT&T, PhonePower, and VoIPo .... it works with all of them. You might just have a lot of callers who block their outgoing caller-id.

Phone ID

Mine was working fine for nearly two years. I moved the receiver to another room and now all I get is unavailable on every call. My phones and answering machines still work no problem. Any ideas? Have phone on same line. Fairpoint Communications.

Exactly! There was also a "fix" that you can do to make the magicJack callerid more reliable when used throughout the whole house like this that involves wiring in a resistor. It's pretty simple and you can find it on google pretty easily.
